Job SummaryA database engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the databases that support an organization's operations.This includes tasks such as designing and creating new databases, optimizing and troubleshooting existing databases, migrating the data from one database to another (Oracle/DB2 to Postgres) and ensuring the security and availability of the data.The candidate should have a strong technical background and experience with database management systems, SQL, and database design principles.They should also have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work well with cross-functional teams.Key ResponsibilitiesDesigning, implementing, and maintaining databases to support an organization's operationsBe involved in all stages of the software development lifecycle from design to development, testing, and deployment.Ability to work in application build using Java, Spring boot technologiesAbility to work with database developers, engineers, and different operations and application engineering teams to help them to identify, analyze, and resolve database performance issuesCollaborate with software engineers and DevOps teams to design and implement technical designs and solutionsAdhering to best practices in securely storing, backing up, and archiving data.Documenting processes related to database design, configuration, and performance.Keeping abreast of developments and best practices in database engineering.Optimizing and troubleshooting existing databases to ensure they perform efficientlyEnsuring the security and availability of the data stored in the databasesDesigning and implementing data backup and recovery proceduresCollaborating with other teams such as developers and operations to ensure the databases meet the needs of the businessContinuously researching and evaluating new database technologies and trends to recommend and implement improvementsDevelop and maintain documentation and standard operating procedures for database infrastructure and servicesStrong understanding of database management systems like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, DB2, etc.Strong understanding of SQL and experience with database design and optimization.Strong understanding of database security and data encryption.Strong understanding of database replication and high availability.Strong understanding of backup and recovery, disaster recovery procedures.Strong understanding of cloud-based database services like RDS, Aurora, CosmosDB, etc.Strong communication and collaboration skills, able to work with cross-functional teams.Strong understanding of Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems.Familiarity with monitoring and performance tuning tools.StrategyAwareness and understanding of the business strategy and model appropriate to the role.BusinessAwareness and understanding of Retail business, the wider business, economic and market environment in which the Group operates.ProcessesAwareness and understanding of Agile s/w development process, change and release management process.Regulatory & Business ConductDisplay exemplary collaboratively identify, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.Qualifications9+ years of work experience in software development using database technologies tools and Java/J2EE.Should have hands-on experience on Spring boot microservices.In-depth knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL), Java and Spring boot.Extensive experience with database technologies and architecture.Extensive experience in data migration between different databases.Sound knowledge of best practices in database engineering and data security.Thorough understanding of database performance monitoring and analysis tools.Expertise in database server specification, performance tuning, analysis and optimization.Strong experience in database disaster recovery planning and recovery.Experience with Oracle, DB2, Postgres and/or MongoDB desired.Experience with AWS/GCP/Azure desired.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Exceptional problem-solving and
