Offer Description The research is based on the idea that each individual component of the built heritage has followed a historical trajectory extending to the present day. Throughout this trajectory, transformations of varying significance have occurred, all interconnected and consequential, either as a coherent continuation or as a more or less conscious rejection of the preceding phase. Each component therefore bears witness to an ongoing process that encompasses, yet extends beyond, the concept of stratigraphy, embracing both tangible and intangible dimensions. This process is itself a heritage value to be safeguarded.
The city of Rome offers countless examples of both individual buildings and portions of urban fabric bearing the traces of centuries of history and forming highly significant palimpsests. The research will therefore investigate one or more study topics, including categories of heritage assets or urban areas, characterised by a long history of alterations and restorations.
