Hays Italy, part of the multinational Hays group, a company listed on the London Stock Exchange, which offers consulting services in the Information Technology sector with the aim of contributing to the success and technological progress of individuals and companies, is looking for aSystem Engineer – Application serversto operate & evolve the company's Hosting platforms. This role focuses on the application layer supporting enterprise‐grade web hosting & critical services, ensuring high availability, security & performance across a large‐scale infrastructure. Field: national provider of cloud, hosting, domain registration, data center & trust services (including certified email/PEC)Key ResponsibilitiesOperate & maintain the ELK / Kafka‐based log ingestion & search stack, ensuring high availability, scaling & fine‐tuning (topics, partitions, shards, indices, ILM, retention)Proactively monitor capacity & performance; analyze monthly reports & trends to forecast growth & prevent incidentsEngineer & optimize Logstash pipelines, Grok patterns & parsing/transport paths; reprocess failed events & reduce parsing failure ratesImplement patch management, address end‐of‐life scenarios & apply security fixes according to guidelines provided by the Security functionMaintain observability dashboards & metrics (Grafana/Elastic) & improve alerting fidelityAdminister & optimize application servers & reverse proxy components, including Nginx, Apache HTTP Server, Tomcat & WildFly, ensuring scalability & resilienceConfigure & maintain reverse proxy & load balancing for high‐traffic hosting environmentsRequirementsSolid hands‐on experience administering ELK ecosystems at scale, including Kafka / Zookeeper, Logstash, Elasticsearch cluster sizing & tuning Strong Linux systems administration (Ubuntu, CentOS/RHEL, Debian) in clustered HA environments; working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server 2012–2019 as neededStrong expertise in Nginx (reverse proxy, SSL termination, caching) & Apache HTTP Server configurationHands‐on experience with Tomcat & WildFly & troubleshooting application‐level issuesKnowledge of load balancing, high availability clustering & performance tuning for web hosting platformsIaC: Ansible (roles, inventories, AWX) & Terraform for provisioning & drift controlCI/CD & versioning: GitLab Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident/Change/Service Request) & ticketing via JIRAClear technical writing for run books & operational documentationLocation: completely full remote – Italy-basedFreelancers are highly welcomed tooCandidates of any gender identity, after reviewing the mandatory privacy notice available at www.hays-itservices.it, are kindly requested to submit their CV in PDF format, quoting the reference number (Ref. ---).
