The research requires the use of macaques housed in dedicated animal facilities, as only non-human primates with a brain organization closely resembling that of humans allow the development and validation of these methodologies. The overall goal is to advance our understanding of the neural processes underlying social and emotional interactions, with potential implications for improving the understanding and treatment of psychiatric and neurological disorders.
