Primary Purpose
The Software Engineer III designs, builds, tests, deploys, and supports reliable software solutions that deliver measurable business and customer value. The role owns significant components or smaller products and projects from inception through production, applying professional expertise with minimal supervision and collaborating across teams and disciplines. This position translates business and technology requirements into maintainable, secure, resilient, observable, and performant solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and engineering standards. The engineer also improves delivery and operational outcomes through automation, Agile and DevOps practices, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
Our flexible/ hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Our core office locations are Chicago, IL, Quincy, MA, & Salisbry, NC.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Own the design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support of significant software components or smaller products and projects, delivering high-quality outcomes from inception through production.
- Collaborate with product leaders, architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to understand end-user goals; evaluate requirements; identify gaps, risks, scalability concerns, and technical debt; and translate needs into clear technical specifications and testable user stories.
- Build production-ready code, APIs, integrations, and automated unit and API tests that are maintainable, testable, secure, resilient, observable, scalable, and performant, while following approved architecture, standards, guardrails, documentation, and source-control practices.
- Participate in solution design and technical reviews, analyze system interfaces and migrations, and provide informed recommendations on technical options, estimates, dependencies, risks, and business impacts.
- Use Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices to deliver changes iteratively; improve build, test, release, and deployment automation; and help teams deliver functionality quickly, safely, and consistently.
- Execute and continuously improve functional, regression, integration, security, performance, and compliance testing; analyze results, resolve defects, and confirm deployments meet defined expectations.
- Monitor application health through logs, metrics, and observability tools; identify performance, reliability, availability, and capacity improvements; and communicate relevant findings and recommendations to product and technical stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot production and non-production issues by performing root-cause analysis, evaluating multiple options, implementing sustainable fixes, documenting resolutions, and supporting change, incident, and problem-management processes.
- Coordinate upgrades, enhancements, vendor interactions, and integration activities with minimal disruption to production operations, and proactively managing technical debt.
- Take ownership of delivered solutions, communicate business value and technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, provide guidance to junior engineers, raise risks early, and contribute to a collaborative product mindset and continuous-improvement culture.
- May be called upon to support critical escalations and must be available during urgent IT incidents as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of work experience.
- 5+ years of software engineering experience; preferrably in the MDM space
- Proficiency in one or more relevant programming or scripting languages and strong knowledge of software design concepts, application integration, APIs, and relational databases.
- Demonstrated ability to independently deliver routine and moderately complex work and to own significant components or smaller products or projects from design through implementation.
- Experience with software development lifecycles, Agile delivery, DevOps practices, source control, CI/CD principles and tools, automated testing, configuration management, and release management.
- Experience building maintainable, testable, secure, resilient, observable, scalable, and performant software, including unit, API, integration, regression, and non-functional testing.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills, including root-cause analysis, production support, system monitoring, and clear documentation of status, actions, and resolutions.
- Knowledge of security, governance, identity and access management, monitoring, and enterprise architecture standards as they apply to software design and delivery.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, adaptability, learning agility, customer and business orientation, and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, work effectively in a fast-paced environment, provide informal technical guidance, and deliver with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud or cloud-native development platforms and technologies such as Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.
- Experience with decoupled applications, APIs, microservices, event-driven integration, or middleware technologies.
- Experience with observability, automated remediation, performance tuning, application security, and reliability engineering practices.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale retail, supply chain, merchandising, finance, master data, or other business-critical platforms.
- Relevant cloud, Agile, DevOps, software engineering, or security certification.
- Demonstrated curiosity, creativity, collaboration, human-centered design thinking, and responsible use of AI tools to improve engineering productivity and business outcomes.
Salary Range: $125,040.00 - $187,560.00

This position is eligible for an incentive bonus based on company performance as provided by the plan terms and governing documents.
