Hello people,
Our client is looking for a hands-on Hardware R&D Engineer measuring, modelling and improving electro-thermal and quantum devices at sub-1 K temperatures, working across device design, fabrication and measurement for silicon-based quantum technology.
Recent PhD graduates and postdocs looking to move from academia into industry are very welcome to apply.
Role focus:
This is a hands-on hardware R&D role focused on cryogenic electrical measurements, modelling and optimisation of electro-thermal and quantum devices operating below 1 K. You will plan experiments, analyse measurement data and work closely with fabrication specialists to connect device design, process development and performance feedback. The role is suited to a PhD or equivalent experimental background in physics, electrical engineering, nanotechnology, semiconductor devices or quantum technology. It offers an opportunity to move from academic research into industry while contributing to silicon-based quantum technology across the full device chain.
Day-today
responsibilities:
• Perform cryogenic electrical measurements of electro-thermal and quantum devices
• Model and design devices to guide experiments and support performance optimisation
• Plan and execute experiments in collaboration with the R&D and fabrication teams
• Analyse measurement data and communicate findings to guide device and process improvements
• Work closely with the fabrication team to connect device design, process development and measurement feedback Your must haves:
• PhD or equivalent experience in physics, electrical engineering, nanotechnology, semiconductor devices, quantum technology or a related field
• Hands-on experience with electronic transport measurements
• Hands-on experience with cryogenic experimental setups, especially in the sub-1 K temperature range
• Strong understanding of solid-state physics, electrical transport and device physics The nice to haves:
• Understanding of component fabrication, with hands-on fabrication experience a strong advantage
• Experience in modelling, simulation or theoretical analysis of semiconductor, thermal, electro-thermal or quantum devices
• Experience characterising electro-thermal devices, such as Peltier devices or NIS-based components
• Experience with custom thermometry, such as on-chip thermometry
• Understanding of phonon transport and electron-phonon coupling
