BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT The Systems Analysis for Nutrition team supports WFP Country Offices in assessing the cost and affordability of nutritious and healthy diets. A key requirement is reliable information on how household consumption expenditure varies within and between subnational areas. This assignment will support the development of a harmonised framework for estimating total, food and non-food expenditure distributions at the level of subnational administrative units across low
- and middle-income countries, using publicly available national, spatial, population, inequality and household-survey data. The resulting estimates will support analysis where recent or sufficiently disaggregated survey data are unavailable and help monitor changes between survey rounds. DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Compile and document relevant national, spatial, population, inequality, price and household-survey datasets.
• Clean, harmonise and aggregate source data, including geographic alignment to country-year-ADM1 units.
• Support development of statistical models for estimating subnational total-consumption-expenditure distributions and their food and non-food components.
• Calibrate and validate modelled estimates against household-survey evidence and appropriate benchmark approaches.
• Produce uncertainty measures, quality indicators, diagnostics and standardised analytical outputs.
• Maintain reproducible Python code and concise technical documentation for updating and applying the framework. EXPECTED OUTCOMES
• A documented inventory of relevant datasets and a harmonised country-year-ADM1 analytical dataset.
• Reproducible R and Python code for data preparation, modelling, validation and output production.
• Modelled ADM1 total, food and non-food expenditure distributions, with summary indicators, uncertainty measures and quality flags.
• Concise technical documentation describing the methods, assumptions, limitations and procedures for updating the estimates. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education:
Final-year Master of Engineering student in Actuarial Science and Economics at ENSAE Paris
- Institut Polytechnique de Paris; Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.

Experience:
Experience in economics, statistics, econometrics and applied data science, including predictive modelling, time-series analysis and research. Experience developing analytical applications and working with complex datasets is desirable. Knowledge &

Skills:
Strong quantitative and analytical skills; proficiency in Python and R; knowledge of statistical modelling, machine learning, data visualisation and reproducible analysis; ability to synthesise findings and prepare clear technical documentation. Languages: Fluency in English (level C0 is required. French is an asset.
