Software Engineering Intern
Location:
Remote / Hybrid
Job Type
Internship (Software Engineering)
About the Role
North Sails designs and builds sails for everything from club racers to America’s Cup boats and Ultim trimarans. Behind every victory on the water sits a dedicated software team building the proprietary design and engineering tools that make it possible. We are looking for a Software Engineering Intern to build and launch a real internal tool from concept to production. You will deliver a high-impact application with real users, a real deadline, and full support from our engineering team. The Project Sail graphics are currently quoted through a legacy tool embedded in an ageing application. You will rebuild this system in React and C# as an integrated module within our new manufacturing platform covering orders, quoting, and invoicing. Because the core platform already handles authentication, you will inherit a working single sign-on (SSO) system and jump straight into feature development. Core Deliverables: Database Design: Stand up a schema within our existing database architecture. Security & Access: Implement role-based access control (RBAC) on top of the platform’s existing SSO. Data Integration: Populate order data via API calls to existing internal systems. Pricing Engine: Implement complex pricing formulae and create an admin interface to maintain them. Document Generation: Generate PDF quotes and track them through the approval process. Stretch Goal: Extend the platform to generate PDF work tickets carrying manufacturing instructions to the shop floor. Why This Internship Is Different Direct User Impact: The user base is small and highly accessible. You will sit directly with the people who use the tool, gather requirements yourself, and deploy code to production not a sandbox. Mentorship & Team Culture: You will receive continuous support, including code reviews, regular check-ins, and hands-on guidance from experienced engineers. What We Are Looking For Education & Eligibility
Requirements:
Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program throughout the internship. Open to Italian residents with a valid Codice Fiscale and, for non-EU nationals, a valid Permesso di Soggiorno. Technical Exposure: Familiarity with React, C#, SQL, and cloud platforms is a plus, but attitude matters more than experience. Ownership Mindset: Someone who asks questions, chases down requirements, and takes end-to-end ownership of their work. AI-Assisted Engineering: Comfortable using modern AI coding tools and equally comfortable explaining, defending, and understanding every line of code you ship. What You Will Learn Modern AI-assisted software development and how to identify tool limitations. Azure cloud services and deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps (CI/CD). End-to-end requirements gathering with real internal business stakeholders. Professional engineering best practices: git workflows, code review, testing, and release management. If this role aligns with your background, apply today
