Job Opening: Application Specialist

Porta Maggiore, Via Casilina 3, 00182 Roma, Italy (on-site, flexible travel opportunities) Department: Operations & Scientific Outreach Reports to: CEO About FLIM LABS FLIM LABS is an innovative deep-tech company based in Rome, Italy, developing cutting-edge instrumentation and software for fluorescence lifetime imaging and analysis. Our mission is to bring state-of-the-art photonics and biophotonics tools from the lab to real-world biomedical and industrial applications through close collaborations with top academic institutions and clinical partners. We are currently looking for an Application Specialist to join our R&D and product team. You will be at the core of our experimental and dissemination activities, working closely with researchers, engineers, customers, and academic collaborators. Your Role As an Application Specialist, you will: Develop advanced optical imaging systems for microscopy applications Design and implement control software to operate imaging workflows and synchronize external devices Plan and conduct experiments using FLIM LABS instrumentation for fluorescence lifetime and time-resolved microscopy Collaborate with academic and clinical partners in ongoing and future research projects Create technical and scientific content, including application notes, product manuals, and customer documentation Conduct customer demonstrations (both on-site and remotely) showcasing hardware and software capabilities Test new hardware and software features, providing feedback to the R&D team Participate in dissemination activities, including scientific conferences, webinars, and workshops Contribute to scientific publications and white papers Maintain and update technical content on the company website in collaboration with the communication team Support new product and feature design, bringing insights from users and experimental workflows Prepare presentations, training materials, and support documentation for internal and external stakeholders RequirementsEducation & Background PhD in Physics, Engineering, Biology, or a related discipline Solid research experience in photonics, biophotonics, fluorescence imaging, or related fields Familiarity with laser scanning microscopy, fluorescence lifetime techniques, or time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC) In-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of FCS (Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy) and related fluctuation techniques Technical Skills Advanced knowledge of Python or C++ Experience with fluorescence instrumentation, microscopy, or optical setups. Experience in the assembly, calibration, and alignment of opto-electromechanical systems for advanced microscopy Hands-on attitude for running experiments and working with hardware/software integration Experience in writing scientific papers, reports, or application notes Experience in technical writing (user manuals, SOPs) is appreciated Familiarity with technical documentation for software and hardware systems Experience in developing and optimizing experimental protocols specifically for Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS) applications Soft Skills Excellent organizational and communication skills Passion for scientific communication and dissemination Fluent in Italian and English; other languages (especially German or French) are a plus Comfortable with public speaking and presentations A collaborative and flexible mindset, eager to learn and share knowledge Nice to Have Previous experience in an application scientist/specialist or pre/post-sales support role Experience with multidisciplinary academic projects Prior involvement in EU-funded research projects or clinical translation of technologies Experience managing scientific websites or preparing visual material for outreach Why Join Us?
