The Pre-Sales Engineer provides technical expertise to support the sales process, translating customer requirements into robust and competitive colocation solutions. Working closely with Sales, Operations, and cross-functional teams, the Pre-Sales Engineer ensures proposed solutions are technically feasible, competitive, and aligned with platform standards and contribute to revenue growth and customer satisfaction. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Operational Leadership
• Act as the technical authority for colocation solutions, ensuring all customer designs align with site standards, operational procedures, and long-term platform strategy.
• Validate customer requirements against available and planned infrastructure regarding to power, cooling, space, and connectivity as well as pricing, capacity and delivery timelines.
• Prepare solution designs (rack layouts, power configurations, cooling approaches, space utilisation models).
• Ensure accurate documentation of assumptions, risks, and constraints during handover to delivery and operations.
• Produce technical drawings and layouts using AutoCAD.
• Establish documentation and handover material. Sales Support & Bid Leadership
• Partner with Sales to qualify opportunities and lead technical discovery with customers.
• Produce technical content for bids, tenders, and proposals, ensuring clarity, competitiveness, and feasibility.
• Support commercial positioning through technical differentiation, resilience, and lifecycle value.
• Identify technical risks and contribute to mitigation strategies during the sales cycle. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
• Serve as a trusted technical advisor throughout the sales cycle, joining customer meetings, workshops, and site visits.
• Act as the technical bridge between customers and internal teams (operations, engineering, network, project delivery).
• Support senior commercial leaders in strategic customer engagements and negotiations. Pricing, Capacity & Resource Input
• Provide technical inputs to pricing models, CAPEX/OPEX assumptions, and margin analysis.
• Support capacity planning for power, cooling, white space, and connectivity based on pipeline forecasts.
• Identify operational and delivery resource needs for planned customer deployments. Governance, Compliance & Risk
• Ensure all proposed solutions comply with internal design standards, safety requirements, and regulatory obligations.
• Support alignment with relevant industry frameworks and certifications (e.g. Tier concepts, ISO standards, security and resilience requirements).
• Identify technical risks and constraints early on and support regular contract reviews by highlighting technical constraints, dependencies, and operational obligations. Market Insight & Continuous Improvement
• Monitor colocation market trends including power density evolution, sustainability expectations, and customer deployment models.
• Capture customer and market feedback to inform future product development and standard solution offerings.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of pre-sales tools, documentation, and standard design templates.
• Support innovation initiatives related to energy efficiency, modularity, and scalable colocation solutions. Collaboration & Cross Functional
• Work closely with internal teams including Operations, Finance, Corporate and Business Development, Customer Experience, Design & Construction, and others to ensure seamless customer engagement and service delivery.
• Support coordination of post-sales handovers and contract fulfillment.
• Foster open communication and teamwork between local and central teams. REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field; advanced qualification is a plus.
• Minimum 5-8 years of experience in technical pre-sales, sales engineering, or solutions engineering in (colocation) datacenters, telecom, cloud or digital infrastructure.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, Spanish and Italian, additional languages like French are an advantage.
• Ability to design and use AutoCAD
• Ability to interpret customer requirements across electrical, mechanical and infrastructure domains.
• Strong understanding of colocation infrastructure: power, cooling, space, redundancy, connectivity, and operational constraints.
• Experience supporting enterprise, cloud, or systems integrator customers and complex sales cycles.
• Knowledge of compliance frameworks, uptime/resilience concepts, and SLA-driven operations.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborative mindset, active listening, sound judgment, and sense of humor.
