Offer Description study of the taxonomic and functional diversity of microbial communities in shallow and deep-sea hydrothermal systems, using microbiological, molecular, and metagenomic approaches; participation in fieldwork and laboratory activities to assess the interaction between microbial communities, fluid geochemistry, and the volatile cycle; integration and joint interpretation of microbiological, geomicrobiological, and biogeochemical data with geochemical, volcanological, and geophysical; assessment of the role of microbial communities in the transformation of redox-active compounds and geologically derived volatiles, and the resulting impact on fluid composition and the interpretation of geochemical signals and proxies used to study volcanic and hydrothermal systems; integrated analysis of geosphere–biosphere interactions and comparison of different hydrothermal ecosystems
Requirements Additional Information Eligibility criteria
Master's degree (Laurea Magistrale) in Biological, Natural, or Environmental Sciences (or related fields), or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad. PhD in Biological Sciences (or related fields), or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad. Proven experience in: fieldwork and sampling in hydrothermal or geothermal systems, and/or systems characterized by deep?seated fluid and gas emissions; studying interactions between microbial communities and geochemical processes in natural environments, integrating microbiological, molecular, and/or metagenomic data with geochemical and biogeochemical data; studying marine hydrothermal ecosystems, with a particular focus on the relationships between microbial communities, fluid composition, volatiles, and biogeochemical processes
