Job Description

UrbyetOrbit is looking for a Junior GIS Analyst to support spatial data processing, cartographic production and geospatial analysis activities. You will work within a multidisciplinary team on projects involving urban planning, environmental monitoring and infrastructure mapping.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional with a passion for geospatial technologies to develop hands‑on skills in a real‑world operational environment. You will be mentored by senior analysts and progressively take on more complex tasks as your expertise grows.

Responsibilities

  • Process and manage geospatial datasets from various sources (satellite imagery, drone surveys, open data portals)
  • Create thematic maps, spatial analyses and cartographic outputs using GIS software
  • Support data quality control, validation and metadata documentation
  • Assist in the development of spatial databases and geodatabases
  • Contribute to field data collection campaigns and GPS surveys when required
  • Prepare technical reports and visual outputs for project deliverables
  • Support senior analysts in spatial modelling and geostatistical analysis
  • Maintain organised project file structures and version control of datasets

Must-have Requirements

  • Degree in Geography, Environmental Sciences, Urban Planning, Geomatics or related field
  • Proficiency in at least one GIS platform: QGIS, ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Desktop
  • Basic understanding of coordinate reference systems, projections and spatial data formats (shapefile, GeoJSON, GeoTIFF, KML)
  • Knowledge of spatial analysis fundamentals: buffering, overlay, interpolation, network analysis
  • Basic proficiency in Python or R for data processing is a plus
  • Good written and spoken English (B2+); Italian required
  • Attention to detail and structured approach to data management

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Experience with remote sensing data processing (optical or radar)
  • Familiarity with PostGIS, SpatiaLite or other spatial databases
  • Knowledge of web mapping technologies (Leaflet, OpenLayers, Mapbox)
  • Experience with GRASS GIS or Google Earth Engine
  • Basic understanding of photogrammetry or LiDAR data processing
  • Coursework or projects involving urban analytics or environmental monitoring
