MANAGING DIRECTOR /GENERAL MANAGER for a SUPER Luxury BOUTIQUE Hotel in ITALY
We have been exclusively engaged to identify an exceptional General Manager for a prestigious luxury hotel in Italy . This is a high-profile leadership opportunity with an internationally respected hospitality organisation and represents an exciting opportunity for an experienced hotelier to take a leading role within one of Europe’s most important luxury destinations.
We are looking for a visible, hands-on, and commercially driven General Manager. Someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality and understands that exceptional leadership happens as much on the hotel floor as it does in the boardroom. The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for the hotel’s operations, commercial performance, guest experience, people, and financial results, working closely with ownership and senior international stakeholders. Most importantly, this leader needs to have the gravitas to lead an experienced Executive team who are excellent individuals, however somewhat dysfunctional as a group.
This is an opportunity for a leader who can combine: Luxury hospitality expertise + commercial instinct + strong operational leadership + exceptional people skills.
We are particularly interested in individuals who are highly visible within their hotels, naturally engage with guests, understand the importance of relationships, and have the energy and personality to become a true ambassador for the property and its destination.
What You Will Lead:
- Overall strategic and operational leadership of the hotel.
- A high-performing executive and management team.
- The hotel’s commercial strategy, including revenue, sales, marketing, and market positioning.
- Financial performance, budgeting, forecasting, profitability, and cost management.
- Guest experience and the continuous pursuit of service excellence.
- Talent development, succession planning, and colleague engagement.
- Relationships with ownership, corporate leadership, and key external stakeholders.
- The hotel’s presence within the luxury travel, business, and local community.
- Continuous operational improvement and change initiatives.
- The protection and enhancement of the hotel’s physical asset and standards.
- The Commercial Challenge
This role will suit a General Manager who sees beyond simply running a hotel. You will be expected to understand the market, anticipate changes in demand, identify new commercial opportunities and work closely with sales, marketing and revenue leadership to strengthen the hotel’s position and financial performance. A strong marketing and business-development mindset is therefore important.
You should be comfortable representing the hotel externally, building relationships with influential stakeholders, and helping create a compelling presence for the property within Italy’s luxury hospitality and lifestyle landscape.
We are looking for an accomplished hotelier who is:
- Highly visible, hands-on, and guest facing.
- An inspiring leader who knows how to attract, develop and retain great people.
- Commercially sophisticated and financially strong.
- Passionate about luxury service and operational excellence.
- Comfortable leading through change and ambiguity.
- Strategic without losing sight of operational detail.
- An excellent communicator and relationship builder.
- Confident representing a luxury property at the highest level.
- Entrepreneurial, curious, and proactive.
- Internationally minded while having a strong understanding of the Italian market.
- Your Background
Ideally, you will have:
- Proven senior leadership experience within luxury or upper-luxury hospitality.
- Previous General Manager experience, or a compelling track record demonstrating readiness for a major GM appointment.
- Experience with an internationally recognised luxury brand and/or leading independent luxury hotel.
- Strong commercial and financial credentials.
- Experience leading complex operations and high-performing teams.
- A genuine track record of delivering exceptional guest experiences.
- Experience with hotel openings, repositioning’s, relaunches, or significant transformation would be advantageous, although not essential.
- Strong knowledge of Italy and/or wider European luxury hospitality market would be highly valued.
- Fluency in Italian and English mandatory .
Italian candidates with substantial international luxury-hospitality experience are particularly encouraged to engage with us.
