Milano, Lombardia, Italia Barrington James Tempo pieno

One of our clients, an international ophthalmic medical device business, is looking for a Financial Controller to take full ownership of the finances of its Italian entity. You'll run the month-end close and management accounts, keep reporting to Group accurate and on time, and act as the go-to finance partner for the local commercial team.

This is a hands-on role with real breadth. You'll cover everything from P&L, balance sheet and cash flow to intercompany, inventory, COGS, tax and compliance, and you'll lead the rollout of NetSuite in Italy. You'll report into the Head of Finance – Europe and work closely with Group Reporting, Shared Services, Operations, Sales, Supply Chain and external auditors. It suits an experienced finance controller who thrives in a matrix environment and takes pride in getting the detail right.

What you'll do

Month-end and reporting

  • Own the month-end close calendar and post all journals, including payroll, accruals, prepayments, depreciation, COGS and FX revaluations
  • Prepare the full monthly management pack (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, schedules and variance analysis) and explain the drivers behind the numbers
  • Manage accounts payable end to end, the daily cash book and bank reconciliations
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and build financial models to support strategic decisions

Intercompany and Group reporting

  • Prepare and issue monthly intercompany recharges and make sure intercompany balances mirror across European entities
  • Reconcile intercompany loan accounts and submit all Group schedules, responding promptly to auditor queries

Inventory, COGS and systems

  • Oversee stock movements and accuracy in the ERP/WMS, working closely with warehouse and operations teams
  • Post monthly COGS journals, reconcile stock accounts and close the Italian period in the ERP
  • Lead the implementation of NetSuite in Italy

Controls, compliance and tax

  • Maintain complete balance sheet reconciliations (bank, AR/AP, VAT, payroll and provisions)
  • Process VAT and transfer pricing transactions and review non-deductible costs for accuracy and tax efficiency
  • Keep statutory and parallel accounting aligned with auditor requirements

Business partnering

  • Calculate monthly sales commissions and produce dashboards, overhead analysis and territory P&Ls for sales managers
  • Support balance sheet reviews, budgeting, forecasting and rolling outlooks
  • Give timely finance support to the Italian sales, operations and customer service teams

What you'll bring

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or Italian equivalent)
  • Proven experience as a Finance Controller or Management Accountant
  • Experience with ERP systems, ideally NetSuite
  • Knowledge of IFRS and Italian GAAP, plus a solid understanding of local taxes
  • Fluent English and strong working Italian
  • Transfer pricing and intercompany experience

What makes you successful here

You can turn financial data into clear insight for non-finance colleagues. You're strong on budgeting and forecasting, and you connect the numbers to wider business goals. You like solving problems, improving processes and finding ways to optimise cost.
