RINA is currently recruiting for a Senior BMS Engineer to join its office in Genoa or Catania within the Civil Engineering Division.
MissionThe Senior BMS Engineer will be part of a multidisciplinary team of Building MEP Engineers. The role involves the design and development of instrumentation and control systems for Building, with a specific focus on Data Center facilities, covering the full project lifecycle. Responsibilities include the preparation of conceptual and detailed designs, retrofit solutions, participation, and support during construction, verification, and commissioning activities. The position requires close coordination with internal engineering disciplines, project teams, subconsultants, clients, vendors, and contractors to ensure that Building Management Systems (BMS) are designed, implemented, and delivered in compliance with technical requirements, applicable standards, and project specifications.
The senior BMS Engineer will be responsible for the independent management of assigned tasks, including BMS design, development of technical specifications, and related project documentation.
The role may require occasional travel to project sites to attend technical meetings, perform site surveys, support construction activities, and assist with project delivery.
- Design Development:
In alignment with the Mission, the Senior BMS Engineer leads the conceptual and detailed design of Building Management Systems and associated electrical infrastructures within MEP projects—particularly for Data Center facilities. This includes preparing technical specifications and all related design documentation across the full project lifecycle. - Data Center Design:
As stated in the Mission, a key responsibility is contributing to the development of critical electrical and control systems for Data Centers, including power distribution, UPS systems, grounding, and redundancy strategies that support high‑reliability environments. - Full Project Lifecycle Support:
Consistent with the role’s involvement from initial concept to delivery, responsibilities include supporting construction, retrofit, verification, and commissioning activities to ensure that BMS and electrical systems meet project requirements, technical standards, and client expectations. - Coordination & Collaboration:
The role requires close coordination with mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural teams, as well as clients, vendors, subcontractors, and project partners, ensuring full integration of BMS and electrical systems within the overall building design. - Technology Innovation & Smart Building Solutions:
The role actively supports the introduction of emerging technologies, smart building systems, and innovative engineering solutions, ensuring continuous improvement in system performance, automation, and building intelligence. - Building Performance Analysis: (#LI-FS1)
In alignment with the Mission’s focus on building performance, responsibilities include contributing to energy efficiency strategies, supporting building physics analyses, and promoting solutions that reduce energy consumption and enhance environmental sustainability.
Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
Qualifications- at least 5 years of experience in building engineering;
- strong capability in designing and developing building management systems within MEP frameworks, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low‑voltage systems;
- proficiency in the design of critical electrical infrastructure for data centers, including UPS systems, generators, and redundancy configurations (TIER levels);
- familiarity with both international and local electrical codes and building regulations relevant to electrical and BMS system design;
- understanding of: The EU Smart Readiness Indicator methodology, assessment of building smartness features. Impact of BMS design choices on SRI scoring. Energy flexibility strategies, demand response features, and automation capabilities;
- familiarity with: EU BACS requirements under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), EN 15232 / EN ISO 52120 standards for Building Automation and Control Systems. Performance classes and minimum requirements for automation levels. Integration of BACS compliance within BMS design, commissioning, and documentation;
- ability to coordinate effectively with mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural teams, as
