We are looking for motivated Junior tool design engineers. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and development of composite tooling, including patterns, moulds, jigs, fixtures and manufacturing aids, to support the production of F1 car components. The role focuses exclusively on tooling solutions, working in parallel with component designers to enable efficient, high-quality, and repeatable manufacturing processes.
COMPOSITE TOOL DESIGN
Design and develop composite tooling solutions, including patterns, moulds, bonding jigs, machining fixtures, lamination tools and direct moulds, to support the manufacture of F1 car components & pit equipment. Translate component design definitions into robust, efficient and manufacturable tooling strategies, ensuring repeatability, accuracy and quality in production. Work in close collaboration with Composite and Mechanical Design Engineers to enable parallel progression of component and tooling design, reducing overall concept-to-release lead times. Act as the technical owner of tooling design, ensuring solutions are optimised for manufacturability, ease of use in production, dimensional control and repeatability, durability and lifecycle performance. Drive standardisation and reuse of tooling concepts, components and methodologies, contributing to improved consistency, reduced rework and more efficient decision-making. Collaborate closely with Production, CAD/CAM and Manufacturing Engineering teams to ensure tooling designs are aligned with manufacturing processes, machine capabilities and factory constraints. Under supervision of leadership and more senior designers, ensure tooling designs are fully documented and released in line with project requirements, including clear definition of manufacturing intent, assembly and usage requirements, inspection and validation criteria. Identify and resolve tooling-related issues arising during manufacture, build and part production, ensuring timely feedback and implementation of corrective actions. Establish and maintain strong feedback loops from production and inspection, using lessons learned to continuously improve tooling design quality and efficiency. Support the development of tooling design standards, best practices and design rules within the tooling team. Contribute to the reduction of tooling lead time and overall programme risk by proactively managing workload, identifying critical paths and prioritising key deliverables in agreement and with guidance from the Line Manager. Maintain effective and collaborative communication across all stakeholders, ensuring clear handover of tooling designs into production and alignment with project timing and objectives. Demonstrate flexibility and commitment to delivery, supporting both planned development activities and urgent manufacturing requirements as needed.
