Offer Description
The project analyzes and maps public expenditure on social assistance in Italy to reconstruct its territorial distribution and examine how national and local welfare measures interact. In recent years, non-contributory assistance spending, including income support, disability benefits, family allowances, and measures addressing poverty and social exclusion, has increased rapidly, exceeding €180 billion in 2024. The research will systematically map the main assistance programs, defining a consistent set of comparable interventions and analyzing their distribution at least at the NUTS 2 level. The objective is to identify complementarities, overlaps, and fragmentation across policy instruments in different territories, creating an evidence base for future research on policy interactions, effectiveness, and the territorial organization of social assistance.
