the after‑school programs are dynamic extensions of learning aligned with the district’s mission, promoting diversity, equity, academic rigor and innovative experiences.
About the position
the district seeks certified teachers, highly qualified teaching assistants or degree‑holding individuals to work directly with students, facilitate group activities, create in‑person or virtual lesson plans and provide focused individual attention.
key responsibilities
- deliver classroom instruction in person and/or virtual, following state guidelines.
- prepare daily lesson plans and submit them to the program lead.
- provide project‑based academic classes aligned with grade‑level curriculum and next generation learning standards (ela, math, science).
- facilitate group activities, sports or movement components, and community‑service projects.
- maintain a safe, orderly learning environment and apply social‑emotional learning strategies.
- participate in mandatory professional‑development training and complete annual staff surveys.
qualifications
interest in serving syracuse city students in an after‑school setting.
new york state certified teacher (preferred) or certified teaching assistant, or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited nys‑registered institution.
ability to inspire girls, build self‑esteem and teach life‑skill foundations.
city residency is encouraged.
compensation
the position pays the current unit1 extension rate of $33.00 per hour. no additional benefits are provided.
