Offer Description

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory disease of the central nervous system. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) can limit autoimmune responses, but cell therapy faces challenges related to functional plasticity and potentially limited access to the central nervous system. We showed that extracellular vesicles (EVs) released by Tregs exert immunosuppressive activity in vitro and reduce disease severity in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), a mouse model of MS. This project will assess Treg-EVs as a potential therapeutic alternative by (1) producing EVs from Tregs of healthy donors and people with MS and comparing their activity in vitro; (2) testing their effects on EAE progression; and (3) profiling their protein, lipid and RNA cargo to identify possible determinants of their immunosuppressive activity.
