Vehicle Performance Engineer

The Vehicle Performance Engineer applies experimental and engineering methods to integrate, develop, validate, and optimize tractor performance. The role combines vehicle-level testing, mechatronic system calibration, hydraulic tuning, objective data analysis, competitive benchmarking, validation, and homologation support to deliver safe, efficient, productive, comfortable, and competitive products that meet customer, business, and regulatory expectations

Key Responsibilities
  • Define vehicle performance targets, KPIs, test procedures, and objective assessment methodologies.
  • Plan, prepare, execute, and analyze vehicle, subsystem, and technology tests on proving grounds, in-field environments, and laboratory test benches.
  • Optimize mechatronic system performance through software calibration, control-strategy development, and hydraulic tuning.
  • Define instrumentation and measurement setups; coordinate vehicle preparation, sensor installation, prototype components, and development modifications.
  • Ensure test readiness, data quality, traceability, safety, and compliance with company procedures.
  • Analyze data, identify root causes and performance gaps, and produce clear technical reports and recommendations.
  • Correlate field, proving-ground, laboratory, and simulation results to support development and validation.
  • Perform competitive benchmarking to establish targets and identify product-improvement opportunities.
  • Contribute to system requirements, vehicle concepts, control logics, hydraulic architectures, and concept reviews.
  • Support validation planning, Functional Safety activities including HARA, and cross-functional engineering decisions.
  • Collaborate with Product Development, System Engineering, Vehicle Electronic Integration, Controls, Software, Validation, Homologation, Manufacturing, Quality, Product Support, authorities, and external facilities.

Vehicle Performance Focus Areas

  • Vehicle dynamics, handling, stability, steering, ride, and comfort.
  • Braking performance and stopping capability.
  • Traction, drawbar performance, powertrain drivability, and efficiency.
  • Productivity, fuel consumption, and vehicle-level integration.
  • Benchmarking, validation, verification, and regulatory compliance.

Validation & Homologation

  • Support validation throughout product development and demonstrate achievement of performance targets.
  • Plan and support regulatory and homologation tests involving braking, steering, stability, visibility, noise, and other applicable requirements.
  • Support type approval and certification activities under applicable international, regional, and local regulations.
  • Investigate non-compliance, support corrective actions, and prepare engineering documentation and compliance evidence.
  • Optimize solutions to achieve compliance without compromising performance, safety, durability, or customer satisfaction.
Required Technical Competencies
  • Vehicle dynamics; braking, steering, traction, stability, ride, comfort, and powertrain behavior.
  • Hydraulic systems, automatic controls, and fundamentals of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Mechatronic integration, calibration, testing, validation, and performance assessment.
  • Experimental methods, data acquisition, data analysis, root-cause analysis, and technical reporting.
  • Sensors and measurement systems, including speed, steering, load, pressure, temperature, acceleration, GPS/inertial, and fuel-flow devices.
  • Instrumentation installation, data loggers, and data-quality assurance.

The candidate shall demonstrate to be able to use the following tools and sofwares:

  • ETAS INCA, Vector CANape, and Vector CANalyzer.
  • MATLAB/Simulink and basic C programming knowledge.
  • Concerto, Dewesoft, DIAdem, AVL DRIVE tools, or equivalent platforms.
  • Vehicle simulation or Model-Based Development environments are a plus.
