Public selection procedure based on qualifications, pursuant to Article 3 of the Regulations governing the awarding of research contracts, for the award of one (1) Research Contract pursuant to Article 22 of Law No. 240 of 30 December 2010, to be carried out at the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (ISAC) – Roma Branch of National Research Council, within the framework of ProjectDTA.AD004.770-SPEACH-Autofinanziato Panegrossi–-CUP: B53C26001230006.

To be admitted to the selection, the following requirements are required:

• PhD degree in Mathematics, Physics, Remote Sensing, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent qualification awarded by a foreign institution

Pursuant to Article 38, paragraph 3, of Legislative Decree No. 165/2001, applicants holding an academic qualification obtained abroad shall be admitted to the selection procedure on a conditional basis. In the event of successful selection, successful candidates shall submit an application for recognition (equivalence) of the foreign academic qualification to the Ministry of University and Research within 15 days from the publication of the final ranking list, under penalty of exclusion from the procedure. Successful candidates already in possession of a declaration of equivalence issued by an Italian university shall submit such declaration to the Institution within 15 days from the publication of the final ranking list, under penalty of exclusion from the procedure.

Specific Requirements

Position Description: The candidate should possess strong expertise in inversion techniques for retrieving geophysical parameters from remotely sensed observations, a solid understanding of state-of-the-art satellite precipitation retrieval methods, and experience in machine learning applications. The candidate should also be proficient in the use of Earth Observation satellite datasets and associated data formats (e.g., NetCDF, HDF, and GRIB). Advanced programming skills in one or more languages (Python, MATLAB, or R), together with experience in Linux-based computing environments, are essential.

Applicants are required to submit a research proposal that is fully consistent with, and contributes to, the scientific objectives and activities outlined above.
