**Director of University Guidance and Careers**
St Georgeʼs British International School is offering an exciting opportunity for an ambitious,
dynamic, experienced and well-qualified university and careers guidance counsellor.
The successful candidate will develop, implement and embed a broad, deep and cutting-edge
careers and university guidance programme that encompasses guidance for tertiary education
across a range of different nations including the UK, the US, Canada and continental Europe. The
role will be supported by a University Officer and a Specialist University Adviser.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Develop a world class university and careers guidance programme
- Lead the university application process
- Guide pupils and their families through the university admissions and application
processes
- Monitor individual pupil progress throughout the university application process
- Educate families about the various universities and college admissions processes to
include financial aid and scholarship possibilities
- Arrange regular visits from university and college representatives to the school
- Arrange on-site university fairs and support the attendance of pupils at local university fairs
- Build and maintain relationships with university admissions professionals
- Develop strong alumni links to augment the university and careers guidance programme
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of colleges and universities around the world and to
show an active research interest in developments throughout the sector
- Develop and maintain tracking and analysis tools to monitor the success of the careers and
university guidance programme
Pastoral
- Show an active interest in the personal circumstances of the children under your care, and
foster their personal and social development
- Actively promote the social, moral and cultural ethos of the school community
- Create an atmosphere of support by being aware of, and fully compliant with, all the
school policies on pastoral care
- Be familiar with all of the schoolʼs policies on Health and Safety and be proactive in
ensuring the safety of all members of the school community at all times
- Promote exemplary behaviour and a responsible attitude amongst all pupils at all times
- Be aware of and act upon all policies regarding the safeguarding of children
- Contribute to the extra curricular life of the school
Professional
- Promote pride in the school among the pupil body through high standards of dress,
behaviour and commitment
- Ensure that all communication is acted upon appropriately and in a timely manner
- Attend Parentsʼ Evenings, Assemblies and other school events during term time as the
Head of School/Principal may, from time to time, require
- Be responsible for all school resources, particularly those in your care, reporting damage
or loss to the appropriate authority within the school
- Contribute to the virtual learning environment, the website, social media and publications
in support of your work
- Contribute to the schoolʼs Self Evaluation and Strategic Plan
- Foster a close partnership with parents, initiating contact in appropriate circumstances
and ensuring that there is a record of this
- Carry out any reasonable professional request made by the Principal or Head of School

**Formal Qualifications / Experience**
- A good UK Honours Degree (or equivalent)
- A masters degree and a record of research in a relevant field is desirable
- A distinguished record of university and careers guidance
- A strong record of professional development
- Knowledge of UCAS and the US college and university system is essential, Italian University
admissions and other key nations is desirable

Conditional Offer of Appointment
Any offer to a successful candidate will be conditional upon the following:
- Verification of identity, qualifications and professional status
- A safeguarding check
- Receipt of at least three satisfactory references (one of which should be from your current
or most recent Principal, Head of School or line manager)
- Verification of medical fitness (completion of a medical declaration)
- Social media screening
**Non-EU applicants will be required to produce their university transcript with courses taken**
**and final grade of their first Degree.**
