Seasonal forecaster
The CMCC seasonal forecasting unit is seeking a skilled Operational Forecaster to join the team. In this role, you'll be responsible for producing and validating operational seasonal forecasts, collaborating with scientists, and delivering actionable insights to stakeholders.
You will work in a collaborative and international work environment, located in Bologna, with access to high-performance computing and state‑of‑the‑art data. We are now embarking on a new chapter of our journey that will further boost CMCC’s global position in climate change research…The Incumbent will support the seasonal forecast unit of the CLIVAP division, optimizing, developing and implementing tools for seasonal forecast runs and the relative output investigation.
Production and validation of operational seasonal forecasts.
Maintaining the seasonal forecast operational chain.
Monitoring model performances, refining outputs based on bias correction and developing diagnostics and products for end users.
Repairing and presenting forecast products (charts, technical bulletins, summary reports).
Programming proficiency in Python, R, or equivalent.
Flexibility to work during holidays and on a shift basis.
English level C1.
Master's or PhD in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Climate Science, or related field.
Proven experience with weather/seasonal forecasts using ensemble system.
Contract and gross annual salary will be based on qualifications and working experience, ranging between 28k and 35k euros.
Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract.
