CMCC’s core objective is to conduct cutting‑edge science, to train the next generation of scientists at both national and international levels, and to be a beacon for climate modelling.CMCC Position cod. 12809Seasonal forecasterDeadline: February 28st, 2026RoleThe Incumbent will support the seasonal forecast unit of the CLIVAP division, optimizing, developing and implementing tools for seasonal forecast runs and the relative output investigation.ResponsibilitiesProduction and validation of operational seasonal forecastsMaintaining the seasonal forecast operational chainAnalyzing the model resultsMonitoring model performances, refining outputs based on bias correction and developing diagnostics and products for end usersPreparing and presenting forecast products (charts, technical bulletins, summary reports)Stay current on forecast methodologies, tools, and best practicesRequired SkillsStrong quantitative skills: time-series, statistical modelling, predictive analyticsProgramming proficiency in bashProgramming proficiency (Python, R, or equivalent)Experience with ensemble verification metrics and forecast evaluation methodsAbility to work in teamFlexibility to work during holidays and on a shift basisEnglish level C1Preferred QualificationsMaster's or PhD in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Climate Science, or related fieldProven experience with weather/seasonal forecasts using ensemble systemProgramming proficiency FortranExperience in AI and MLDuration, Compensation & BenefitsOpportunity will be issued both internally and externally.Position will be based in Bologna CMCC office.Contract and gross annual salary will be based on qualifications and working experience, ranging between 28k and 35k euros.Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract.Flexible working time as per internal policies.Support during the immigration process, if needed.Protected CategoryBelonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute a preferential condition.
