Training Solutions Research Scientist, AWS Training and Certification Job ID: 3118604 | Amazon Web Services, Inc. Are you fascinated by the science of learning, how individuals learn, and how learning continues to evolve? Are you driven to design and conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, interpret results to solve problems, and transform the way we learn and interact with technology? Are you passionate about applying scientific approaches, principles, and methods to solve complex challenges in learning and credentialing? If so, AWS Training & Certification (T&C) team has an exciting opportunity for you as a Research Scientist. A T&C Research Scientist will have deep industry knowledge, leverage technology (AI/ML tools), analyze data, experiment, stay current with trends, identify opportunities, aid in product and strategy development, and provide insights for T&C around the science of learning and what is coming. The role requires extending existing scientific techniques and inventing new ones to understand how learners learn and how learning evolves. You will envision new ways to solve customer problems, create innovative experiences, and enable organizations to solve business problems through upskilling their workforce. The ideal candidate should possess the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and cross‐functional teams. A successful candidate will be a self‐starter, comfortable with ambiguity, with strong attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast‐paced, ever‐changing environment. You should be comfortable working semi‐autonomously on difficult problems with visible risks or roadblocks. You'll maintain high standards while moving quickly, prioritizing both rapid experimentation and responsible development to deliver measurable customer impact. The work will challenge you to be resourceful, think big while staying connected to the details, translate research, data, and advanced analytics into strategic direction, and embrace a high degree of change and speed. The scope and scale of what we strive to achieve is immense, but it is also meaningful and energizing. Candidates should have end‐to‐end experience conducting research, as well as advanced modeling skills to uncover perception drivers. They should have proficiency in diving deep into large amounts of data and translating research into actionable insights and recommendations. You are an excellent writer who can effectively communicate data‐driven insights and recommendations through written documents, presentations, and other communication channels. You are a creative problem‐solver who seeks to deeply understand the business so you can tailor research that informs stakeholder decision making and strategic tactics. As a Research Scientist, you will join a talented and collaborative team that is dedicated to driving innovation and delivering exceptional experiences for current and future learners, developers, and organizations. You will be a part of a global team that is focused on transforming how people learn. The position will interact with global functional teams and business and technical organizations. Apply your expertise in scientific research and analysis to design, experiment, and conduct scalable research projects that address opportunities in learning and credentialing for international audiences. Identify opportunities to simplify existing research processes and operate more nimbly. Collaborate with cross‐functional teams, including engineers, business, product, and others to define requirements, establish success metrics, and deliver high‐quality solutions. Use advanced statistical methodologies to understand relationships between key metrics and other related measures (e.g., regression, structural equation modeling, latent growth curve modeling, Shapley analysis, etc.). Conduct thorough data analysis to gain insights, identify patterns, and drive actionable recommendations that enhance T&C operational performances and customer experiences. Continuously explore and evaluate emerging methodologies to improve the accuracy and efficiency of research. Analyze performance of methods and models, iteratively improving them based on quantitative metrics and feedback. Communicate concepts and findings effectively to both technical and non‐technical stakeholders, providing clear explanations and guidance on opportunities and their potential impact. Contribute to team's strategic planning, goals, priorities, and technical roadmaps. Publish research findings in internal reports and external peer‐review when aligned with business needs. Basic Qualifications Master's degree or above in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics or equivalent quantitative field. 4 years of quantitative field research experience. Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products. Experience analyzing both experimental and observational data sets. Experience conducting research on a global scale. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of R, MATLAB, Python or similar scripting language. Experience with agile development. Experience in causal modeling like graphical models, causal Bayesian network, potential outcomes, A/B testing, experiments, quasi‐experiments, and data science workflows. Experience in machine learning, statistics, and deep learning. Experience with various machine learning techniques and parameters that affect their performance. Experience programming, prototyping and scripting with Oracle, SQL, Hive, Pig, SAS, R, Weka, or Python.
