The Enel X DES Hardware Engineering group is seeking an experienced Computer Systems Engineer to join the team.

The person in this position will have responsibility for researching, developing, testing and productizing the group's next generation site controller compute platform as well as managing sustaining engineering activities on the existing platform in an innovative and challenging working environment.

The Computer Systems Engineer position will have responsibility for producing Enel X's standardized site network designs, including specifying topology and approved components for use in projects.

This position will work with the Project Engineering and Product Management teams to understand site networking requirements and will design solutions to meet site project needs.

In addition, the Computer Systems Engineer will provide training and tools to the applicable Operations teams (Project Eng., O&M, NOC) to enable self-sufficiency in tier 1 & 2 CPU and networking diagnostic and troubleshooting activities.


What you will do:

Responsible for the site controller hardware design and the successive implementation, including establishing policies, procedures, networking, prototyping and related tests for qualifications.

Provide tier 3 support for networking and compute engine problem on field, as well as maintaining compute engine solutions.
Occasional travel to provide critical on-site support for high-impact, high-visibility, first-contact customer sites.

Responsible for ensuring tier 1 & 2 support are sufficiently trained and tooled to provide tier 1 & 2 troubleshooting of networking and compute engine problems.

Additionally, provides enough tools and training/documentation that tier 1 & 2 support personal can independently commission networking and compute engine hardware.

Develop and configure adapters between industrial assets (SCADA, Battery Energy Storage Systems, smart meters, etc.) working with standard industrial protocol and the stack hosted in the site controller hardware Which skills we are looking for: Mandatory Bachelor of Science in engineering or computer scienceStrong knowledge of Unix operating system, shell scripting, command line interface, standalone applicationsExperience specifying, configuring and troubleshooting networking equipment including: switches, modems, firewalls and routers, as well as competency in setting up of VLANs and knowledge of virtualization concepts such as HypervisorsDemonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with product managers, Project engineers, controls/electrical engineers, DevOps and software development engineers is essential.

Experience with Modbus and OPC-UA industrial communications protocols.

Excellent understanding of electrical/mechanical systems and the design and test of complex automation/control systemsExperience and work with Live Electrical systems above 50VAble to use mechanical and electrical tools and equipment.

Able to don and use electrical and other PPE as required.

Availability for occasional domestic and international travelAbility to develop adapters from industrial protocols in one of the following languages:
Java, Python, C++Working proficiency and communication skills in verbal and written English

Nice to have:
Proficiency with AutoCAD and ability to generate and interpret 1-line drawings and product assembly drawings. Solid modeling experience desired.

Experience with other industrial communication protocols such as IEC104 or DNP3Knowledge on docker and cloud technologies What we expect from you:
