Overview of the Functions of the Post

Established in 1964 by Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam in Trieste, the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) aims to empower scientists from developing countries by providing them with education and skills for successful careers, contributing to the retention of scientific talent in the developing world. For over 50 years, ICTP has been pivotal in enhancing scientific expertise globally.

Reporting to the Director, ICTP, and supervised by the Financial and Budget Unit or Programs and Advancement of Conference Support Services Unit, incumbents will handle entitlements of fellows and visitors, following internal procedures and UNESCO regulations. They will assist in logistical support, ticket arrangements, payment processing, and record-keeping.

Additionally, they will review agreements with external scientific organizations, ensuring adherence to rules and cost-effectiveness.

Key responsibilities include:

General Accountability

  • Act as certifying officer within delegated authority
  • Prepare correspondence and reports
  • Maintain files and reference systems
  • Assist in budget and financial report preparation
  • Verify accuracy and consistency of reports
  • Provide guidance on administrative rules and procedures

Finance Accountability:

  • Inform supervisor of financial status
  • Handle accounting transactions
  • Process payment requests
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations
  • Compile financial data and reports
  • Assist staff with financial procedures

Visitor Services Accountability:

  • Validate entitlements and claims
  • Arrange transport
  • Maintain records

Outside and External Activities Accountability:

  • Review external agreements
  • Verify reports and documentation
  • Identify errors and anomalies
  • Coordinate with external offices for payments

Required Qualifications

Education
