About Hill's Pet Nutrition:

At Hill's Pet Nutrition, we are dedicated to transforming the lives of pets and their owners through superior nutrition. Our state-of-the-art facility in Castiglione delle Stiviere is expanding, and we are looking for a talented Automation Engineer to join our dynamic team.

Job Purpose:

The Automation Engineer is responsible for developing, designing, building, planning, executing and closing automation and Continuous Improvement projects through cross functional team collaboration. Performing (preventive) maintenance, modifications and repairs of all automated production systems. The primary accountabilities of the role are to ensure high reliability and productivity of the machinery and automated production systems, safety, automation, data collection, troubleshooting, continuous improvement and to provide IT support. The Automation Engineer has to be an effective and valuable member of the plant engineering and maintenance teams, to ensure delivery of plant business results working within a structure that requires considerable interaction with his team as well as production units. He/She supports other plant functions guiding and empowering people in the implementation of the plant strategy.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and coordinate automation project planning, execution and closing;
  2. Participate in Project Management Plans and Processes (cost, schedule, communication, resources, scope, risk, etc.);
  3. Provide local strategic decisions support in annual (Capital Expense Budget & Operational) planning processes in terms of opportunities and prioritization;
  4. Where required coordinate installation, commissioning, start up collaborating with suppliers, end users, plant operation team, maintenance team, plant engineering team and others as required;
  5. Provide the technical expertise to configure, maintain and troubleshoot plant equipment and systems within the plant and execute hands on integration assignments on site;
  6. Provide the technical expertise and act as the site Subject Matter Expert on robotic equipment;
  7. Maintain, develop and improve the Plant Floor Systems by modifications of PLC, SCADA and HMI applications;
  8. Identifying, analyzing and solving (potential) problems / malfunctions of the Plant Floor Systems;
  9. Research and advise with regard to the (automated) production systems;
  10. Shares knowledge and develop skills of others (in team) and actively participates in continuous learning opportunities;
  11. Takes initiatives to optimize working activities;
  12. Understand and apply company standards including Safety, Food Safety, Sustainability, Performance, Reliability, Finance, Security and Risk Management.

Education/ Experience Requirements:
  1. Bachelor in Engineering / Technical field;
  2. 3/5 years of engineering experiences in integration, production or supply chain environments with an automation focus;
  3. RPA certification (Robotic Process Automation);
  4. Work experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably food).
Expected Areas of Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  1. Project management;
  2. Electrical and automation engineering;
  3. PLCs, HMI systems, system integration and/or plant floor systems;
  4. Robotics in processing;
  5. 2D drawing.

Working Relationships (Key partnerships and reporting relationships):

The Automation Engineer works within a structure that requires considerable interaction with production units and support functions such as local, European and global engineer and automation departments.
