Job Summary:

For our manufacturing plant with over 800 employees in Montecchio Maggiore (VI), we are seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer that will be part of Xylem Electronics Centre of Excellence.

The Electronics Centre of Excellence supports Xylem's objective of simplifying water by standardising and enhancing Xylem's key Power Electronics capability to design a range of custom motor drives (variable frequency) to surpass efficiency, usability, and reliability requirements for a wide range of water applications.

Our Senior Electronic Engineers are responsible for the power electronics and motor control for a range of variable frequency drives used within the Xylem portfolio. These products are based upon a reusable platform which is customizable for specific applications and environments.

Essential Duties:

1. Design, test, and verification of electronics products and prototypes on single and three-phase supplies at voltages up to 1000V.
2. Schematic design/PCB layout with Altium Designer.
3. Analogue signal chain design and simulation using SPICE.
4. Building and debugging hardware.
5. Magnetics design, testing, and prototyping.
6. Driving manufacturing efforts for reliability and quality.
7. EMC/EMI testing and debugging.
8. Conform designs to meet standards compliance.
9. Interfacing with software engineers, physicists, and mechanical engineers.
10. Present project/product development updates and product support to clients.
11. Generating design, test, and verification documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electronics Engineering with specialization in Power Electronics.
2. 5+ years of Power Electronics/Drives design experience.
3. Good understanding of motor control theory (synchronous and asynchronous).
4. Good knowledge of mixed-signal design.
5. Proficiency in schematic design/layout using a recognized package (e.g., Altium Designer, OrCAD, PADS, etc.).
6. Proficiency in the use of test equipment: DMM, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzer, Impedance Analyzer, Hi-Pot tester, etc.
7. High-level analytical ability, strong understanding of power engineering fundamentals and theory.
8. Good understanding of half-bridge and fly-back converter topologies and general experience with SMPS.
9. Good understanding of gate drive design, circuit protection (high power and voltage), analog filters, and analog signal processing.
10. Prior experience with mains-driven electronics.

Other Preferred Qualifications:

1. Hands-on experience with EMC/EMI testing and debugging.
2. Magnetics design, specification, and testing.
3. Good understanding of boost PFC converters, fly-back converters, half-bridge/full-bridge converters.
4. Good understanding of industrial communication protocols (RS485, ModBus, AS-i).
5. IGBT design and specification, including associated electronics, i.e., Gate-drive, protection, fault-mechanisms, etc.

CONTRACT: permanent, full time

LOCATION: Montecchio Maggiore, with some travel to Cambridge Office, UK

TRAVEL: estimated 30% travel required
