REPORTS TO: Access Center Case Management Supervisor

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday (9:00am-5:30pm)

LOCATION: Venice, CA

STATUS: Full-Time, 40 hrs/wk, Non-Exempt

CELL PHONE: Reimbursement for use

SALARY RANGE: $21.00-$24.00/hr

Safe Place for Youth (SPY) is the leading service provider for youth experiencing or at-risk of homelessness in West Los Angeles. Founded in 2011, our agency offers trauma-informed, low barrier programs that support young people in exiting the streets and achieving stability so that they can thrive, not just survive. Our robust continuum of care includes street outreach, drop-in services, health and wellness programming, case management, education and employment services, and housing programs.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Access Center Case Manager position will support the flow and responsibilities of Access Center Programming and Case Management. This role is an integral part of case management services at SPY.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  1. Support Access Center Case Management Team in day-to-day operations and programming of the Access Center
  2. Run Front Desk operations on a rotation basis ensuring members are connected with needed programs and services
  3. Conduct intakes, assess needs, and refer new youth to needed services/programs such as housing, mental health, benefits, education, and employment
  4. Use a harm reduction, trauma-informed, housing-first model when working with youth
  5. Provide mediation and crisis intervention to youth as needed
  6. Participate in team approach to developing youth-driven treatment plans, case summaries, and progress reports
  7. Work within the Coordinated Entry System (CES), utilizing HMIS and SPY Database to track and record Drop-in Case Management data
  8. Prepare data collection and analysis, monthly reports, and program administration duties in a timely fashion
  9. Advocate by attending external community meetings with government agencies and community groups
  10. Support members with housing and health and wellness goals
  11. Work collaboratively across internal departments and assist with general SPY programming as needed
  12. Work within established legal and ethical guidelines
  13. Ability to work nights/weekends in the near future
  14. Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the program and organization

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or a related field is preferred.
  2. 1-2 years of experience in social services or related field is required.
  3. 1+ years experience providing direct services to high-risk youth including counseling and advocacy is required.
  4. 1+ years of experience working in an Access Center environment is preferred.
  5. Working knowledge of child and adolescent social, emotional, and cognitive development, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction service model
  6. A commitment to and passion for the mission, vision, values, and culture of SPY
  7. A self-starter who is prepared to drive innovative solutions for an emerging organization
  8. An ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires effective collaboration with a variety of organizations and individuals
  9. Must possess great communication and organizational skills
  10. Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Drive
  11. Must have reliable transportation, valid California driver's license, and proof of current insurance

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  2. Changes in the environment, such as the office or outdoors
  3. Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary- up to 15-20 pounds at times

Mandated Reporting Requirements: The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements: Effective August 9, 2021, the State Health Officer has mandated that all workers, paid or unpaid, in homeless services organizations must provide proof of vaccination. If eligible for a booster shot, proof of booster is also required. If not fully vaccinated, weekly COVID-19 testing is necessary depending on the program.

Driver Positions: Applicants are required to provide a copy of their driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles, along with a copy of their valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. Job offers are contingent upon a satisfactory driving record.

NOTE: All staff members will be considered introductory employees for the first three months of employment and will not be considered regular employees until the conclusion of this period. SPY reserves the right to extend an employee’s introductory period. In no way does the expiration of this introductory period change the fact that all employees are at-will.
