Server Engineer | Data Center Operations Job ID: | Amazon Data Services Japan G.K. AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and manage servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to keep the cloud running. You’ll join a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and more to maintain safety, security, and near‑infinite capacity for our customers. Key job responsibilities Work as part of the Operations team to maintain and upgrade data center infrastructure. Install and remove server racks, repair IT hardware and network components, and respond to emergent situations affecting operations. Meet customer service level agreements by resolving problems and serve as the first line of hardware troubleshooting. Perform on‑call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change‑management activities that require monitoring of the data center. Participate in team meetings for metric analysis and discussing daily/weekly goal achievement. Apply department policies and procedures, including safety and security, in day‑to‑day operations. Document root‑cause analysis for operational issues and contribute to process‑improvement initiatives. Mentor less experienced team members as needed. A day in the life Support infrastructure equipment (racks, servers, networking devices, hardware components, cables, etc.). Follow ticket‑based instructions to execute routine operations such as installing and removing server racks and fixing hardware. Perform on‑call duties and monitor the data center during maintenance and change events. Maintain a high aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving. Participate in site management and keep operation areas tidy with 5S principles. Work rotating shifts: 10‑hour shifts with one‑hour breaks. Standard hours are 8:00‑18:00, 12:00‑22:00, or 21:45‑08:15, with four work days and three days off. Basic Qualifications Experience with problem‑management tickets, escalation procedures, and data center facilities. Knowledge of maintenance windows and change management. Japanese and English communication skills. Linux/networking certifications (RHCSA, CCNA, or equivalent) and scripting skills (Bash, Python, etc.). BA/BS in a technical field or equivalent practical experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience with ticketing systems and escalation procedures in a data center environment. Understanding of maintenance windows and change management. English and Japanese communication skills. Linux/networking certifications and scripting skills.
