Senior and Junior Firmware Engineer Space assets are vastly underused — commercial payloads on small satellites operate less than 20% of the time due to power and bus limitations. We’re developing the next generation of components that enable continuous payload operations and full monetization of space assets. Cosmic Careers is searching for a Senior and Junior Firmware Engineer with a hands‑on approach and the confidence to work directly with hardware and developing prototype firmware. The role involves the development and prototyping of avionics systems for space applications and associated ground equipment, with a primary focus on software and firmware development. Bare‑metal microcontroller programming in C++ Prototyping and designing of firmware for avionic space systems Developing and conducting tests for the validation and flight qualification of our products Planning and execution of engineering and qualification tests of the embedded systems of our products What you bring Electronics, embedded software, mechatronics, automation, robotics, or similar engineering background Demonstrated professional experience in autonomous design of firmware for microcontroller‑based systems Demonstrated professional experience in developing and automating test code Excellent skills in modern C++ and good OOP practices Advanced knowledge of any typical embedded‑system communication interfaces such as RS232, RS485, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet Fluent use of git, CMake Very good skills in using laboratory equipment for debugging (e.g., oscilloscope) Ability to work independently Resilience and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment Comfortable use of English (speaking and writing) Legal authorization to work in the Italy What we offer Goal‑driven environment with flexible hours and occasional remote work International, passionate team with regular activities and retreats Buoni pasto and other perks Hands‑on experience designing, manufacturing, and testing space‑grade systems Real impact in a European NewSpace startup Hiring process 15‑min screening call with HR Take‑home exercise (if applicable) Technical interview with the engineering team Behavioural interview with the CEO Welcome onboard We’re dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification, we encourage you to apply anyway.
