We are now embarking on a new chapter of our journey that will further boost CMCC’s global position in climate change research…Together Role The Incumbent will support the seasonal forecast unit of the CLIVAP division, optimizing, developing and implementing tools for seasonal forecast runs and the relative output investigation. Responsibilities Production and validation of operational seasonal forecasts. Maintaining the seasonal forecast operational chain. Analyzing the model results. Monitoring model performances, refining outputs based on bias correction and developing diagnostics and products for end users. Repairing and presenting forecast products (charts, technical bulletins, summary reports). Staying current on forecast methodologies, tools, and best practices. Required skills Strong quantitative skills: time‑series, statistical modelling, predictive analytics. Programming proficiency in Bash. Programming proficiency in Python, R, or equivalent. Experience with ensemble verification metrics and forecast evaluation methods. Ability to work in a team. Flexibility to work during holidays and on a shift basis. English level C1. Preferred qualifications Master's or PhD in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Climate Science, or related field. Proven experience with weather/seasonal forecasts using ensemble system. Programming proficiency in Fortran. Experience in AI and ML. Duration, Compensation & Benefits Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally. The position will be based in Bologna CMCC office. Contract and gross annual salary will be based on qualifications and working experience, ranging between 28k and 35k euros. Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract. Flexible working time as per internal policies. Support during the immigration process, if needed. Protected category Belonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute a preferential condition.
