Our Genoa headquarter is strictly inter-connected with our 11 centers around Italy and two outer-stations based in the US for a truly interdisciplinary experience. YOUR TEAM The COgITOR lab is led by Prof. Alessandro Chiolerio, within the Bioinspired Soft Robotics research line, under the responsibility of Dr. Barbara Mazzolai. You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group and collaborate to carry out common research with outstanding facilities. The activity foresees the development and evaluation of a prototype of a colloidal cybernetic system, a multifunctional platform composed of liquid state material able to self-heal, sensing, computation and memorization, energy recovery and conversion, integrating an ad hoc electronics. The research aims to develop, characterize and optimize a liquid state pressure sensor, as well as to integrate the energy, sensing and computing subsystems into the final unit, the COgITOR prototype. The prototype will be then characterized to assess the cross-talk between subsystems and the response in extreme environment. Within the team, your main responsibilities will be: Fabrication of the liquid state pressure sensor Characterization of the sensor Integration of the subsystems (pressure, energy, computing) into a single device Integrated system testing Extreme environment testing ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS Ph.D. in any field of engineering or physics Documented experience and strong skills in LabView, manual setting up of experiments Autonomy and responsible behavior in a lab The ability to properly report, organize and publish research data Good command in spoken and written English Availability to transfer for the contract duration in Genova, Italy ADDITIONAL SKILLS In addition to an appropriate scientific background, the applicant profile shall embrace as much as possible the following expertise areas: soft robotics, fluid mechanics, LaTeX typesetting, Matlab scripting, Python language Good communication skills Strong problem solving attitude High motivation to learn Spirit of innovation and creativity Good in time and priority management Ability to work in a challenging and international environment COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Competitive salary package for international standards Wide range of staff discounts Private health care coverage Candidates from abroad or Italian citizens who permanently work abroad and meet specific requirements, may be entitled to a deduction from taxable income of up to 90% from 6 to 13 years.
