NYU Florence is currently recruiting for a part-time lecturer to teach Comparative Politics of the Western World, sponsored by NYU's College of Arts and Science’s Wilf Family department of Politics. Teaching commences in the Autumn Term (Sept-Dec 2023).

**Course Description**

Europe has been the site of fundamental political, social, and economic changes in the postwar period. Episodes of integration and separation, development and crisis, characterize the dynamic nature of European politics. A brief introduction to the history and the development of the advanced industrial societies of Western Europe will be followed by a survey of the politics of the Western European democracies and the European Union (EU).

**Course Objective**

By the end of the course students will:

- Be aware of the EU's organizational structure, its attainments and failures
- Have a good knowledge of the transformation of the EC into the European Union after 1989 and the impact of its subsequent eastward enlargement
- Analyze the key internal and external challenges Europe and the project of European integration have confronted in last decades
- Understand key concepts in political science and comparative politics
- Research independently using a variety of data and evidence to explain the use of relevant theories and concepts
- Communicate effectively by making use of established academic conventions in the discipline of politics and articulate arguments through appropriate channels

**Course format**

Teaching commences in the Fall Term (end of August-Dec 2023). The course is taught in English and meets twice per week for 90 minutes each session, for 14 instructional weeks plus the final examination week, and office hours. The instructor role includes all preparations, delivery, and grading.
