**Who we are
The **European University Institute** (EUI) at a glance:

The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) is an inter-disciplinary research center at the

heart of the European University Institute (EUI). It was established in 1992 to complement the four EUI

disciplinary departments (Economics, History and Civilization, Law, Political and Social Sciences) with the aim

to be involved in both basic and policy research, collaborate with other centers of excellence in Europe,

provide opportunities for young scholars and promote dialogue with the world of practice. The Centre’s goal is

to maintain an environment and support structure that fosters intellectual curiosity and excellent research. The

research agenda of the Centre is currently guided by three major themes: Integration, Governance and

Democracy; Regulating Markets and Governing Money; and 21st Century World Politics and Europe.

**About the project**

**Project details **ERC Synergy Grant ‘SOLID - ‘Policy crisis and crisis politics. Sovereignty,

solidarity and identity in the EU post 2008’ jointly led by Maurizio Ferrera
(University of Milan), Hanspeter Kriesi (European University Institute) and
Waltraud Schelkle (European University Institute).

Job description The research fellow will carry out research work in an independent manner and
collaborate on the research work of the project.

Main tasks include:

- Studying the policy-making processes across several EU crises, at the

transnational and the supranational level. This includes the reconstruction of
these processes, the mapping of conflicts, and the identification of the relevant
coalitions for policy decisions based on document analysis, expert interviews,
and content analysis of national newspapers;
- Studying the interdependent negotiations at the supranational and the national

level with advanced methods of policy process analysis that involves text-as
- data analysis and surveys;
- Designing and conducting field-work;
- Writing up research for publication in a variety of modes, including peer

reviewed journals;
- Creating and maintaining relationships with external bodies to foster

collaboration;
- Presenting research papers at conferences;
- Organising conferences, seminars and workshops.

**Qualifications and experience**

**Qualifications and Essential**:
**Experience**
- PhD in political science, political economy or related fields of study;
- Demonstrated research interests and comprehensive knowledge and
expertise in the politics of crisis and a keen interest in European polity
formation, including protest movements;
- Proven ability to analyse and research complex ideas, concepts or theories.
- Demonstrated applied statistical skills;
- Proven expertise in at least one of the following methods: text-as-data

approaches, network analysis, survey design (conjoint survey experiments);
- Demonstrated experience in a lead role in pursuing the activities and

objectives of the research project;
- Demonstrated experience in working as part of a collaborative research

team, training and guiding junior colleagues.

**Desirable**:

- Excellent written and oral communication skills, acquired through previous

experience;
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate research findings to a

different range of audiences;
- Proven ability to develop a coherent programme of research and establish

models in the context of the research project;
- Previous experience of participation in academic/ policy events, and

conferences.

**Languages **Excellent knowledge of English, both spoken and written (CEFR level: C1 or
above). Knowledge of other languages constitutes an advantage.
