The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries, the IRC aims to restore safety, dignity, and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure.

Following a first assessment conducted in January 2017 in Italy and another one in July 2017, several critical protection gaps were identified within assistance provided to refugees and migrants in Italy: mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), assistance to unaccompanied children, information provision and legal support. To respond to the identified gaps IRC established a small presence in Italy. Programs in Italy include Refugee.Info web-based information platform, child protection programming targeting unaccompanied children and victims of trafficking, mentoring programs for the socio-economic inclusion of refugee youth, WPE and education (social emotional learning and healing classrooms). With the onset of the Ukrainian refugee crisis Ukraine, IRC Italy is ramping up its capacities to respond to the protection and MHPSS needs of newly arrived Ukrainian refugees in several locations in Italy.

**Job Summary**

We are looking for a Case Worker, who will be based in Rome and support IRC response to refugees from Ukraine, under the project Comprehensive, trauma-informed support for women and children fleeing Ukraine, the resource will support the protection of refugees from Ukraine and facilitate orientation and access to services as needed. Under the supervision of the Project Manager and in collaboration with the psychologist and cultural mediator, the Case Worker improves individual and collective well-being and ensures that vulnerable people, including children and adults, are safeguarded from harm and have access to basic needs and rights.

**Specific Duties and Responsibilities**:
Under internal supervision, the resource person will be expected to ensure:

- Contribute to the development of the project team's work plan and objectives and ensure that

the assigned activities are carried out according to the established goals and timelines;
- Support in conducting the preliminary assessment for the identification of PSS needs and support clients through referrals in line with client's needs and project scope;
- Provide orientation to services and contribute to updating map of relevant services in the Rome area on an ongoing basis; Ensure appropriate case management, follow-up, and supervisor progress of clients; this includes coordinating clients’ survey satisfaction at case closure;
- Support the project team in coordinating and conducting training modules for practitioners when necessary;
- Prioritize, implement and conduct psychosocial activities with reference to their area of expertise and according to the project objectives;
- Provide regular narrative and quantitative data on activities carried out. Ensure compliance with case file management and reporting requirements, including timely data entry in hard-copy files and databases;
- Maintain good professional relations with partners and assisted persons;
- Participate in meetings with local institutions, NGOs, etc., when requested.

**Experience and Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work or similar degree (Sociology, Anthropology, Educational Sciences);
- Proven track record of 4 years in the same position, preferably in the Lazio Region;
- Prior experience working in the field of migration in Italy;
- Experience with international organizations is an added value;
- Knowledge of the English language, written and spoken;
- Good knowledge of territory services in the area of reference;
- Willingness to travel 2/3 days per week within the city and in surrounding areas;
- Previous experience in handling groups, organizing psychosocial activities, and referral to the services dedicated to migrant people

**Skills Required**:

- Knowledge of the institutional and associational context of the Lazio region is advisable;
- Proficient digital literacy e.g., MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Outlook.
- Must be a great teammate with excellent social skills and the ability to work under pressure in a stressful environment, displaying patience, compassion, and diplomacy.
