We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager, located in Montreal, QC. The Engineering Manager specializes in Engineering Management as a manager of people. Engineering Managers at FARO see their team as their product while they are technically credible and know the details of what engineers work on, their time is spent safeguarding their team's health, hiring a world-class team, and putting them in the best position to succeed. They own the delivery of product commitments and are always looking to improve productivity.
Participate in the process of translating customer needs or business strategy into technical requirements and deduct functional specifications, architectures, and implementation concepts.
Provide technical guidance to the team to enable the team to make a smart decision on the customer needs and business strategy.
Monitor and drive team effectiveness and efficiency
Participate in development of long-term vision and planning of new products and services.
Champion a continuous improvement mentality monitoring and implementing necessary changes
Drive innovation on product platform level
Contribute to
- and implement the R&Dtechnology roadmap.
Forecast and manage budgets
Organize and oversee 3rd party development projects
Breakdown epics into manageable / deliverable stories in a continuous deployment mindset.
Evangelize an Agile and DevOps mindset through the teams, running Agile software development methodologies.
Analyze, design and develop algorithms, prototypes, software packages within established specifications.
Conduct code reviews and mediate architectural discussions and decisions.
This position requires
Ability to achieve consensus amongst stakeholders
5 years or more experience hands-on technical experience
2 years or more experience in a leadership role with current technical experience
Profound development experience as an engineer / software developer
Experience in engineering project management, risk analysis
Ability to successfully manage remote and hybrid teams
Strong experience in agile software development methodologies
Solid complex problem-solving skills and being creative and innovative in providing solutions
Experience in Agile software development methodologies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Experience in programming with C++, JavaScript, Unity is a plus.
Strong background in mathematics and/or engineering is a plus
