Eurac Research is an interdisciplinary research center located in Bozen/Bolzano, Italy. At the Institute for Alpine Environment, we perform ecosystem research with a special focus on global change in mountain environments. The team conducts regional, national and international research projects dealing with ecosystem and landscape ecology of mountain environments with a special focus on global change, biodiversity, ecosystem services and sustainable development.

The current position is embedded in the Biodiversa+ project ‘Grasslands for biodiversity: supporting the protection of the biodiversity-rich grasslands and related management practices in the Alps and Carpathians’ at Eurac Research and supports the regional assessment of biodiversity-rich grasslands and biodiversity-promoting management methods in South Tyrol and the neighboring regions. The aim of the position is to conduct vegetation surveys in grassland, to collect spatially-explicit botanical data and to establish a link between the botanical data and information from remote sensing sensors. In addition, the management practices of the sites will be identified through questionnaires and interviews with farmers and stakeholders to determine which management systems are particularly favorable for biodiversity.

**Tasks**:

- Creation of a database for spatially explicit vegetation samples and important drivers
- Collection of existing vegetation data
- Vegetation resampling of historical vegetation relevées
- Identifying and harmonizing grassland plant richness data
- Identifying the long-term landscape changes on the hotspots of biodiversity-rich grasslands
- Identify management practices on vegetation plots and study farms using field observation
- Identifying the possibilities of extension of the grassland protection
- Develop guidelines to extending the protected grassland network
- Project management
- Drafting of reports and publications, elaboration of presentations for internal and external conferences.

**Requirements**:

- Excellent knowledge of German, written and spoken; excellent knowledge of English, written and spoken
- Experience with management of research data e.g. collection of data, data databases
- Excellent organizational, communication and social skills
- Ability to work autonomously, in a team and with project partners
- Experience in writing of scientific papers and reports
