**General context of the project***

Among the people who arrive in Italy every year via the Central Mediterranean route, thousands are unaccompanied and separated minors. Children fleeing from conflicts, persecution or forced enlistment. Many of them want to reach northern Europe and therefore remain invisible to the authorities, to avoid identification. Others decide to drop out the formal reception system and continue their journey throughout Italy. This exposes them to exploitation and abuse.
In the frame of the Italy mission we are in this year consolidating an internal structure dedicated to the intervention in Health Sector.

**General purpose of the position***

The Medical Coordinator of Italy mission will be in charge of coordinating the Health Sector within the mission and will draw the strategic development lines of the same, in coordination with Italy HoM.

At the same time, s/he will be in charge of the direct implementation of the Palermo clinic and technical support to Reach Out Project, plus the supervision of other medical projects in Italy and further direct interventions if and when needed.

Her/his role is particularly important in terms of Representation of INTERSOS in the tables and contexts related to Italian Migration Health Support.
S/he coordinates and follows implementation of the overall activities in Health Sector in Italy.

**Main responsibilities and tasks***
- Coordinates the medical activities of the Italy mission
- Performs medical assistance within Palermo clinic and in outreach activities of the Sicily projects
- Coordinates all medical and paramedical staff of the Italy mission
- Manages the stock of medicines and medical and support items of the Palermo clinic and supervises the same for other medical projects in Italy.
- Coordination and collaboration with the local, provincial and National stakeholders involved in Health Sector
- Monitors and Reports his/her activities to Italy HoM.
- Cultivate and develop scientific collaborations and partnerships within the Italy mission’s strategy.
- Draws, Plans and Writes projects proposals and reports according to INTERSOS needs
- Participate in advocacy initiatives and communication moments on behalf of INTERSOS according to Italy HoM

**Education***
- Medical practitioner with legal authorization to practice in Italy - covered by insurance

**Professional experience***
- Previous professional experience in humanitarian programmes is mandatory

**Professional requirements***
- Abilitation to act as a Doctor
- Expertise in working in the field with people on the move, asylum seekers, vulnerable individuals
- Excellent knowledge of the Italian National Health System and its access rules
- Knowledge of Italian laws on seasonal work and asylum seekers
- Essential computer literacy (word, excel, internet).
