Human Technopole (HT) is a new interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT has the mission of conducting cutting-edge research but also to translate innovation into methods and tools available to the entire National scientific community. To this end, HT is opening National Facilities that will provide state-of-the-art research infrastructure for Structural Biology, Light Imaging, Genomics, Genome Engineering, and Data Handling and Analysis.

**Overview - National Facility for Light Imaging**:
The National Facility (NF) for Light Imaging includes three infrastructural units: (i) Imaging, (ii) Sample preparation and (iii) Technology Development - Custom Microscopy and will support the projects of both internal and external scientists. In addition to offering access to and maintaining several cutting-edge and advanced light microscopy setups, the NF will provide basic and advanced training to its users, organize microscopy courses and coordinate with other Facilities at HT to streamline the generation, quantification, and analysis of the imaged data.

**The role of Head of Facility**

The Head of the National Facility for Light Imaging will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and improving the range of technologies of the Facility, which will be fully integrated within an outstanding research environment, including Facilities and services for image analysis, stem cell and organoid automation, (cryo-) electron microscopy and correlative light-electron microscopy (CLEM), genomics, genome engineering, and other research infrastructures. The Facilities have full access to a powerful, state-of-the-art, and centrally administered high performance data storage and computing (HPC) cluster, designed to meet the needs of microscopy, computational biology, and data science.

**Key tasks and responsibilities**:
The Head of the National Facility for Light Imaging will be responsible for:

- **Coordination and oversight of the state-of-the-art genomics infrastructure, including**:

- Maintaining, updating and further developing the Facility resources (experimental protocols, equipment, technology);
- Provide high-level services in sample preparation and image acquisition;
- Scouting for new promising technologies, continuously enhancing the portfolio of the Facility;
- ** Effective management of the National Facility, including**:

- Defining the recruiting needs for the Facility development;
- Defining priorities and resource planning for the Facility;
- Training, mentoring and supervising the Facility staff;
- Liaising with the HT Scientific Training team to develop User training programs;
- Coordinating direct training for Users on basic and high-end instruments;
- Organizing internal workshops for internal and external scientists;
- Developing and optimizing novel protocols and adapting them to the Facility workflow.
- Interacting closely with scientists on all aspects of the imaging acquisition and processing workflow;
- Establishing synergies with the other HT Facilities;
- Developing links with other leading Light Imaging Facilities and resources worldwide;
- Overseeing all aspects required for the smooth operation of the Facility;
- Overseeing the preparation of reviews and/ or audits by external experts;
- Identifying needs and collaborating with HT IT services to meet Facility and user requirements
- ** Effectively working with the Steering Committee of the National Facility for Light Imaging to ensure the strategic goals of the Facility are met in the short and long term.**:

- ** Contributing to the development of the Facility Access Management Plan, together with the Standing Independent Evaluation Committee.**

**Mandatory requirements**:

- PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant field;
- +5 years of proven experience leading a light microscopy Facility applied to the life sciences;
- Knowledge of optics;
- Fluency in English - HT is an international research institute.

**Preferential requirements**:

- Experience of design and development of advanced light microscopy setups;
- In depth knowledge of image analysis and computer vision;
- Experience in high content imaging;
- Knowledge of best practices for effective data management;
- Good publishing track record proving the effective support to research projects;
- Proven ability to obtain and manage external funding;
- Outstanding track record of supporting the development of trainees;
- Knowledge of Italian language or willingness to learn (Italian language classes will be provided for non-speakers).
