Panoramica:
Within its medical humanitarian mandate, MSF Italy focuses its activities in the health and social support of migrant populations transiting and living in Italy. In November 2023, an agreement was signed with MSF France to implement a project to support the beneficiaries of humanitarian corridors from Libya. The project, run in collaboration with the Italian association ARCI, involves the continuity of care of people took in charge in Libya by MSF France, and evacuated in Italy through the governamental humanitarian corridors. The activities include referrals to local players, orientation and support to ARCI staff, intercultural mediation, and mental health support.

Responsabilità:
**Scope, reporting lines**

The Psychologist reports directly to the PMR (Project Medical Referent).

S/he provides psychological support to patients according to MSF principles, standards and procedures in order to improve the patients’ mental health.

**Main tasks and responsibilities**
- Carrying out evaluation of mental health needs of patients and establishing a diagnosis and a plan of treatment. Informing the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and referring patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient's condition;
- Implementing the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment;
- Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health conditions;
- Assisting and training staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities. Working in close collaboration with translators in order to ensure appropriate terminology and behavior during sessions;
- Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities;
- Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective;
- Ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential.

**Specific Context Accountabilities**
- With the support of the PMR, s/he plans and implements the activities of taking charge and/or referral of the patients according to the project medical strategy;
- S/he oversees the mapping of the existing Mental Health (MH) services, including other INGOs, local NGOs, community groups and national health system services, etc.;
- S/he participates to the training and coaching of MSF and ARCI staff on migration health issues, with focus on the mental health of survivors of violence;
- In close collaboration with other team members, s/he focuses on identifying the needs of Mental Health support in the key population, and participates to the definition, planning, organization and update of the appropriate MSF strategy and MH activities;
- S/he collaborates with the PMR in reviewing and developing the technical materials, tools, guidelines and documents, and follows the implementation of all Mental Health standard protocols and procedures set by the project, to provide the most appropriate treatment for the patients;
- In collaboration with the PMR, s/he strengthens the relations with ARCI staff and local players in relation to the mental health component and according to the Project strategy;
- S/he is involved in the identification of possible advocacy issues;
- S/he participates in Psychological First Aid (PFA) activities at national level, according to the needs;
- S/he participates in the project data collection and reporting;
- S/he participates in regular team meetings, supervisions and multidisciplinary case discussions;
- S/he is available to frequent travel to different regions in Italy (to interview the patients, meet ARCI staff, map/meet the local players, etc.).

Qualifiche:
**Education**
- Essential degree or diploma in Psychology
- Essential registration with the Italian board of Psychologists that allows to practice in Italy

**Experience**
- Essential: 2 years experience minimum as a Psychologist
- Essential: working experience with migrant populations and intercultural mediation experience
- Essential: drivers licence and availability to travel in Italy
- Desirable: working experience in psychotherapy
- Desirable: working experience with children, minors, families
- Desirable: 2 years working experience in a similar position
- Desirable: training in ethnopsychiatry
- Expertise and experience with survivors of violence is an asset

**Languages
- Essential: Italian (C1)
- Essential: English (B2)
- Desirable: French, Arabic or other relevant languages

**Knowledge
- Essential computer literacy (word, excel, ppt, outlook)
