Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Underwriter to join our team at SCOR. As a Medical Underwriter, you will be responsible for providing expertise and support in the assessment and management of individual Medical UW and claims cases from a medical, non-medical (financial, special risks etc) legal, contractual, and administrative perspective.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the benefit definition and updating of the rules and regulations of the medical and financial UW manual.
  • Adapt to the local language and provide clear guidance on definitions.
  • Apply sophisticated underwriting procedures to assess medical and financial risks for facultative clients.
  • Handle, understand, and manage different types of claims.
  • Communicate with all levels of client's underwriters and other company management personnel, explaining the reasoning and theory surrounding an underwriting impairment, problem, and/or decision.
  • Set up and drive initiatives linked to Medical UW& Claims client servicing (mainly case handling) and highlight relevant findings for actions.
  • Ensure a competitive turnaround time to clients while maintaining SCOR standards for UW & Claims philosophy.
Requirements
  • Keep up-to-date with current medical topics, current economics, and business environment as well as changing/new financial evaluation concepts and measures.
  • Carry out medical and financial UW training for clients (seminars, specific training, etc.).
  • Contribute to the local adaptation of informative documents prepared by the company regarding medical and financial underwriting.
  • Incorporate the financial and medical underwriting point of view into product development.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development and pricing teams to develop new products and benefits.
  • Have an innovative mindset – to be acknowledged about AI trends on the Medical UW & Claims area and how this could be a future game-changer for the UW environment.
  • Give support to clients during the on-boarding of tools provided by Scor.
  • Promote commercially the EUW and VClaim tools and support to clients and colleagues of Velogica in the implementation of the tools.
  • Understand internal processes, tools, and systems for UW & Claims.
  • Prepare additional reports required for business monitoring, accumulation.
  • Collaborate with the technical accounting department for the control and registration of claims.
  • Collaborate with the actuarial department to monitor sports professional athletes.
  • Have professional experience in the insurance sector. Experience in life reinsurance is a priority requirement. 8-10 years of experience in this area (minimum 5 years).
  • Have excellent communication skills to interact with clients and internal teams.
  • Be a change agent for innovation transformation.
  • Have at least a bachelor's degree in economics, insurance, or similar.
  • Have strong analytics and reporting analysis capabilities.
  • Have a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Have a strong (excellent) spirit of collaboration.
  • Have an international mindset (ability to adapt to different cultures/practices and understand those differences).
  • Have the ability to identify necessary risks and challenges to our UW and Claims functions and provide input into solutions.
  • Bring a strong mindset for facilitating best practice.
  • Like good team spirit, be willing to work with other people.
  • Bring the availability to travel in Italy and abroad to meet clients and/or for internal and/or international meetings.
