Project Overview: The HAPTIC initiative focuses on the electrophysiological and multimodal evaluation of the developmental pathways of multisensory integration in both typical and atypical populations during haptic assessments.

Contract Details: This position offers a fixed-term contract for a duration of two years.

Your Research Team: You will collaborate within the Unit for Visually Impaired People (UVIP), a diverse and interdisciplinary team led by Dr. Monica Gori. With over two decades of experience in psychophysics related to multisensory processing, the team investigates the perceptual and motor aspects of various conditions, including visual and auditory impairments. The unit comprises experts in neurophysiology, virtual reality programming, and statistical analysis.

Research Focus: The project aims to explore multisensory perception throughout development, emphasizing various sensory modalities such as vision, hearing, and touch. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming haptic devices and conducting psychophysical experiments that involve multisensory integration.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD in neuroscience, (bio)engineering, neurobiology, (neuro)psychology, or a related field, with substantial experience in haptic experimentation.
  • Proficiency in programming haptic devices and interfaces, designing perceptual experiments, and analyzing data.
  • Familiarity with neurophysiology, virtual reality programming, and statistical methods.
  • Experience with programming languages suitable for haptic interfaces, such as MATLAB, Python, C/C++, and possibly Unity.
  • Strong command of written and spoken English.
