Job Summary

Villanova University seeks a highly skilled and experienced Stage Manager to join our theatre team. As a key member of our production staff, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of our productions, ensuring seamless execution and exceptional quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of stage management, including rehearsals, performances, and technical rehearsals.
  • Develop and maintain detailed production schedules, including rehearsal calendars, conflict calendars, and ASM schedules.
  • Collaborate with directors, designers, and other production staff to ensure a cohesive and high-quality production.
  • Supervise and mentor Assistant Stage Managers and other crew members to ensure their successful completion of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate and manage the setup and breakdown of rehearsal rooms, including the arrangement of set pieces, props, and other technical elements.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and detailed blocking notes and choreography notes.
  • Prepare and distribute clear and concise rehearsal and performance reports.
  • Call each production from the booth and oversee student run crew, ASMs, and board operators.
  • Attend weekly production meetings and take detailed meeting minutes to distribute after the meeting.
  • Train students to become Assistant Stage Managers and delegate tasks to them as needed.
  • Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned by the production team.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Theatre or related field.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience as a stage manager, with a strong background in teaching and mentoring students.
  • Strong attention to detail, above-average written and verbal communication skills, and ability to handle multiple projects at once.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and teaching students with various experience levels.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards when it comes to stage management, including AEA guidelines.
  • Previous experience running a light board or sound board (QLab) for a production.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BA in Theatre Studies or Stage Management.
  • 5+ years as a professional stage manager and stage management educator.
  • Strong multi-tasker with experience running meetings and keeping meeting minutes.
  • Familiarity and experience with AEA guidelines.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • QLab and ETC Lighting Consoles.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours

This position requires occasional exposure to loud noises during technical rehearsals or in the scene shop, as well as exposure to theatrical haze, flashing lights, and other theatrical effects. Evening and weekend work is required for this position.
