About the Role

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is seeking a highly skilled Ecological Sustainability Specialist to join its Office of Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment (OCB). This role will play a crucial part in ensuring that countries and stakeholders effectively respond to the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting Mainstreaming Biodiversity: Assist in implementing the FAO Strategy on Mainstreaming Biodiversity across Agricultural Sectors and its Action Plan, including developing guidelines, best practices, training materials, and technical documents.
  • Cross-Organizational Coordination: Coordinate with various departments and units within FAO to ensure effective implementation of initiatives related to climate change, biodiversity, and environmental sustainability.
  • Communication and Engagement: Develop and manage communication content and products, write concept notes, and participate in project implementation to engage stakeholders and promote ecological sustainability.
  • Monitoring and Analysis: Support monitoring and analysis of policy, legal, and technical developments in international forums and instruments related to biodiversity, agriculture, and the environment.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • A university degree in a relevant field such as agriculture, forestry, fisheries, natural resources management, or related biological sciences, social sciences, law, economy, international policy, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience in biodiversity management and sustainable management of natural resources or other relevant fields, with working knowledge of English.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate, draft, and finalize clear technical and policy documents, guidelines, and manuals in English.
Working Conditions and Remuneration

This position is classified as a Category C job. The estimated annual salary for this role is approximately $60,000-$80,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, benefits include comprehensive health insurance, pension plan, and life insurance.
