Site Operations Department

The Site Operations Department is accountable for the overall functionality of all mechanical and electrical systems, building maintenance, and the performance of all data modules within our data centers.

Our team operates 24/7 on-site with Critical Facility Technicians (CFTs) on each shift. This team represents Vantage to our clients and serves as the first line of defense regarding the uptime of our facilities and the performance of our customer installations.

Utilizing a Critical Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to plan and monitor necessary work, the Site Operations department conducts all preventive and corrective maintenance.

Our culture promotes and rewards team performance that directly engages with customers and the facility infrastructure. This is a hands-on team that performs most of the actual work rather than relying on external vendors, allowing us to deliver superior service that is both quicker and more cost-effective.

Position Overview

The Engineering Operations Manager will lead a team of CFTs under the guidance of the Director of Operations. This role will oversee workflow and work order management, training initiatives, event coordination, customer communications, recruitment, and performance evaluation of the assigned CFT team. Our CFTs are highly regarded, well-trained, customer-centric professionals, recognized as some of the finest facilities engineers in the industry.

This position will leverage your extensive experience to guide the team through complex maintenance challenges, including critical Method of Procedure (MOP) development, testing strategies, spare parts management, capital planning, end-of-life replacements, and facility expansions, all while minimizing risks to our clients and their operations.

Although this role emphasizes leadership, the expectation is to act as a Chief Engineer first and a people manager second. This is not a conventional Critical Facilities Engineer position; if you are someone who can roll up your sleeves and perform the tasks yourself when necessary, this position is ideally suited for you. Our goal is to enhance our team with a Chief Engineer who has practical experience and can demonstrate best practices to others.

Essential Job Functions

  • Daily management and administration of engineering and operations functions at the facility, ensuring safe and effective operation of machinery and building systems.
  • Hold team members accountable for preventive and corrective maintenance of facility equipment.

Duties

  • Comprehend the engineering and operational facets of building systems, promptly identifying performance deficiencies and responding to operational and emergency situations.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment through constructive feedback.
  • Manage contracted services at the facility, including developing scopes of service, bidding, awarding, and overseeing contracts.
  • Train CFTs in new processes and procedures as needed.
  • Direct and maintain the site-specific preventive maintenance and work order program.
  • Oversee project execution and quality assurance.
  • Author After Action Reviews (AAR) and Root Cause Analyses (RCA).
  • Ensure completion of tasks efficiently.
  • Evaluate system performance using knowledge of existing systems and collected performance data, suggesting cost-effective improvements to service and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure availability of adequate inventory of tools and supplies necessary for building operations.
  • Safeguard and enhance the value of our assets, ensuring that building machinery and systems meet or exceed their expected lifespan.
  • Organize administrative functions related to site operations, including work orders, maintenance activities, and budgets.
  • Assist in preparing operational and capital budget components.
  • Ensure that major projects at the facility are planned, executed, and closed out according to industry best practices.
  • Supervise contractor activities within the building.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience required.
  • Extensive expertise in mission-critical infrastructure installations; a knowledgeable resource for overall site infrastructure, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in facility/plant engineering and maintenance supervision is strongly preferred.
  • Direct managerial experience and strong interpersonal skills are highly preferred.
  • Proven track record of delivering excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Strong communication skills in both oral and written formats.
  • Proficiency in English and Italian is required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and building automation systems.
