Position Overview
As a Customer Engineering Director, you will represent Garrett in front of customers on key pre-development activities, business wins, flawless launches, value engineering, and field activities. You will build and develop deep customer relationships, supporting Garrett's business wins, and serve as the primary point of contact for customer senior engineering executives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a Customer Technology Roadmap and lead all pre-development activities.
- Cross-functional collaboration across Garrett's portfolio, from core turbochargers to new growth vectors, including fuel cell powertrains, full battery electric vehicle platforms, and connected vehicle product offerings.
- Ensure alignment with mid to long-term customer team strategic plans.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest powertrain technology trends and customer voice.
- Secure business wins through technical offers, flawless launches, and advanced product quality planning.
- Resolve customer escalations, lead launch resolution issues, and field issue resolutions.
- Manage functionally lead engineer project teams, assigned to respective customers and resident offices.
- Ongoing coaching of lead engineers and bringing back improvements to internal functions for engineering efficiency gains.
- Responsible for bids, value engineering, and homologation launch readiness reviews, anticipating customer needs, and participating in engineering resource planning activities.
- Ensure the latest tools and processes are deployed within project teams.
- Bring new ideas and drive change in how to work differently and more efficiently.
- Responsible for hiring project teams, onboarding, and unified career path development for engineers and designers.
- Support the annual operating plan and strategic plan in collaboration with account directors.
Requirements
Engineering university degree, with a master's or MBA preferred.
Experience and Skills
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
Deep understanding of customer relations and strong technical expertise in key areas impacting successful launches.
Demonstrated skills in:
- Product development and component design/manufacturing
- Managing a multi-cultural team, x-functional, and located in different regions
- Communicating and dealing with customers of different segments and cultures
- Strong business acumen and customer centricity
