We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) in Genova, Italy. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary group working on the development of continuum manipulators inspired by the capabilities of the elephant trunk.
Key Responsibilities- Design and fabrication of a continuum manipulator and end-effector
- Parametric/topological optimization
- Kinematic modelling and analysis
- Characterization of actuated systems and validation of robots
- Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, robotics, mechatronics or in a closely related discipline
- Documented experience and strong skills in mechanical design and fabrication of tendon-driven soft systems and pneumatically actuated systems
- Numerical modelling (Ansys, Comsol) and simulation (MATLAB) of kinematics
- Computer-aided design, enabling device prototyping/fabrication (SolidWorks, Siemens NX)
- Fabrication techniques for soft systems including 3D printing
- A strong publication record
- The ability to properly report, organize and publish research data
- Good command in spoken and written English
