At Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, we are seeking a highly motivated Post-doc in Metamaterial-Based Soft Grippers and Actuators to join our Soft Robotics and Continuum Manipulators research line. The successful candidate will work in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, collaborating with the team to carry out common research within outstanding facilities.
The research aim is to design and develop continuum manipulators taking inspiration from the capabilities of the elephant trunk. The specific objectives are to investigate innovative metamaterial-based soft actuators and to develop multidimensional soft gripping systems.
The main responsibilities of the Post-doc will be:
- Design and fabrication of a continuum manipulator and end-effector
- Parametric/topological optimization
- Kinematic modelling and analysis
- Characterization of actuated systems and validation of robots
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, robotics, mechatronics or a closely related discipline, and documented experience and strong skills in mechanical design and fabrication of tendon-driven soft systems and pneumatically actuated systems.
The successful candidate will also have a strong publication record, the ability to properly report, organize and publish research data, and a good command in spoken and written English.
